Title says it all really. Currently running 3570k SMP with a single 7970 and the SMP PPD ranges around 8-13k and 7970 ranges around 3-8k PPD using V7 1.52. Is this normal? I see other less powerful GPUs giving waaay more PPDs.

From what i have seen it's better not to run a AMD gpu. You will get more PPD using your cpu only. I have tried many time to use one or two 6970 and they aolways ended up screwing my 3930k performance. Make a test with your cpu only when your gpu WU finishes.

I've got a pair of 7970s, with a 3820 CPU. It was /slightly/ better to use both GPUs and assign 6 cores to folding in a Linux VM, but oi vay that thing threw off heat! In the end, it was just simpler to SMP fold only. I'm pretty sure my power bill thanks me too

Until they improve AMD folding performance, I would stay away from using an AMD GPU for folding in most cases.

8k PPD is about right for top-end AMD GPU's in the 6XXX and 7XXX series.
