Easiest way for me to hook up three monitors.

Hello everyone,

Ive been looking around the web for a bit now and am confused about how i should go about hooking up three monitors.

Here is my hardware:
MoBo -ASUS P6T SE
Vid Card - Sapphire HD 5870
Monitor 1 - ASUS VH242H 24"
Monitor 2 - ASUS VH242H 24"
Monitor 3 - Old Samsung 19", DVI and VGA adapters.

Right now i have the 2 24" ones hooked up fine. I want to add the 19".

I do not need or want eyefinity.

I was considering just buying a 60$ - 100$ video card and putting it in my second PCI-e slot.

Will this work, and will it reduce the performance of my main video card?

I would rather have a extra video card than an active displayport hookup thing.

If I forgot any relevent info, please ask and i will give it.

Thank you for your time,

gympok

I suppose you can just use one of those HDMI to DVI adapters so you'll have 3 DVI outputs?

Will the one card like that support that? for some reason i thought that wouldnt work, but i guess i can try that. I thought the card itself only would support 2.

When I had 1 6870 I had three monitors hooked up like this:

Monitor #1 - DVI
Monitor #2 - DVI adapter to HDMI on the monitor
Monitor #3 - HDMI

The above configuration should work, because I also had 3 monitors hooked up to one 5770 in the same fashion.

thanks tictoc, ill go buy myself a 15$ adapter and try that, better than a video card. Thanks for sharing!

You didn't tell us what outputs your video card has. You might want to look up your specific card to see if you can do 3 monitors without any of them being DP. I know that for my HIS 6870, I can't use both DVI and an HDMI, one would have to be on the DP because of how it's wired (hdmi and dvi share something, not sure because I use my mobo for #3).

If your model card can't do 3 monitors without an adapter (and you don't want one), you can pick up a super cheap second card. No need to spend even $60 on something if you just want to browse/watch video on the third.

I think you need to set your primary monitor to the top DVI input, and then you should be able to configure them however you want in CCC. Post back if you have any problems.

This is the card i have,

2 dvi, 1 hdmi, 1 display port

I just finnaly found some documentation from Sapphire about it and it does not have an option for DVI, DVI, HDMI. It says i can do DVI, DP, HDMI. So for the DP connection, do i need a DP monitor? or just the displayport adapter? active or passive? or would it be better to just buy a cheap second video card?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125405 Something like this?

Thanks

gympok sorry for the misinformation. I had never tried to extend to all three of my displays, because one of them is a 46" TV. I just tried it with one of my 6870's and CCC said that I needed to disconnect one of my monitors. It would definitely be cheaper to just get another card to power the third monitor, because you would need an active adapter to use the 5870 to run all three monitors at once. The 5450 you linked should work fine for the Samsung.
