Thread Starter
I currently have 2 OCZ agility 3 120GB’s in raid 0 is it possible if I where to buy 2 more OCZ agility 3 120GB’s could add them to the current raid array without having to re-do my system?

The obvious question is why? Are they not fast enough for you?

The second question is if your going to be making non redundant stripes why not just make a second strip?

The easy answer is no. Adding drives to a raid 0 will cause a rebuild because it does not have any redundat spare from what I remember at least from a hardware raid. A software raid solution might be able to do it but would sacrifice the performance you are trying to get.

As long as you have more ports you can simply add more ssd's and extend the volume onto them no problem. No need for a reinstall at all.

Why don't you do a raid5 config because your board supports this. You loose a bit of space for parity backups but it's more secure if one of those 4 ssds fails.

If you want them all to run on SATA3 ports, i don't think so, because you are probably using the Marvell SATA 3 porsts right now, and that means you will be using the intel controller for the other SATA 3 drives (which is SATA 2), I don't think you can run RAID 0 from two different controllers. Unless you are planning to run everything on the intel SATA 2, which I think is going to be a bottle neck for your drives.

You would certainly want all the drives on the intel ports. That is a given. smile.gif

So he will bottlenecking the intel ports, won't he? I get 1050/1000 MB transfer with 2 120 Agility 3s in RAID 0, what would he gain in adding more, aside from space?

Not even close since the Intel SATA III are 6GB/s he will be really lucky to get over 900/800MB/S on the pair and the MB only has 2 SATA III ports so the extras would go on the slower SATA II slots . slowing down the Drives unless you was to get a Raid controller

All the op asked was could he do it, not how it would perform.

Sequential numbers would take a big hit but the rest go up.

Here are two Plextors on 6 gb ports and two M4's on 3 gb ports all in one array on the mobo controller...
