$150 to spend - Page 2

You can read all about different models like the HP ZR24w or Dell u2410 on tftcentral.co.uk

From owning a ZR24w, I don't notice this "bad" response time. Pretty much anyone who owns an IPS panel does not notice the "bad response time" either. It is pretty much a number that has been given too much attention by people who haven't used an IPS monitor before. Know that the posted response time is the fastest response time, not the average response time so it is possible your "faster" TN panel can have a slower response time too. If you look at the "blurred" screenshots from tftcentral reviews, you can see the difference is quite small.

Either way, the quality you get from an IPS panel is SO much better that you can easily overlook any lag you see.

A video just to show you the difference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWXcNlh85Ps

I really stress trying to get a 24", if you can sell off your current one. The screen ratio (16:10) really helps as 16:9 on 23"s isn't meant for computers. I'd try to get a monitor from HP or Dell as will exchange if you get a dead pixel. I've heard a lot of complaints about dead pixels.

If you decide to go cheap, I'd recommend the ones from Catleap. They are available on ebay and a couple sites. They get the OEM panels from Samsung or LG, and make their own monitors. Some come with dead pixels so they cost a lot less, but you can pay a bit extra and you get a perfect one. My friend got a 27" for under $400 including international 2 day shipping. A 27" would normally run you $800-1000 easily.

If you live near a Microcenter (San Jose or Orange County for California, just says west coast), you can probably pick up a new CPU and Mobo in store around that price range. If you're gaming, a 2500k or a 3570k plus a close to free mobo when the deals are going. thumb.gif
