Sandy Bridge-E is for people who have no budget (read: $3000 counts as no budget biggrin.gif ), or for people who want to have the best of the best, or for people who are into L2N or Phase Changing to get the best OC possible. Or for people who do lots and lots of video editing. smile.gif
Then, the MSI Z79 board might be good, but I would choose the ASUS RIVE (read: Rampage IV Extreme) over it any day. Or let me put it this way: the MSI one is good, the RIVE the best. Or in your own words: RIVE => MSI Z79. wink.gif
If you want the fastest SSD possible, you'll want an Intel 520 240GB. That's the fastest. What I'm trying to give you is the best bang for the buck. Currently, the M4 has that advantage over Intel's 520 and the Vertex 4. smile.gif
I doubted between going for 8GB and 16GB. With video editing, I suppose 16GB woudln't be total overkill, so one might go for that, but 32GB is for people like me or 3930K (the user, I mean) : go overkill, or go home. wink.gif
Or in my sig's words: overkill is underrated, my friend. tongue.gif

Is the MSI Z79 board any good?
Why the M4 over the vertex 4? isnt the vertex 4 faster?
x79 with only 8GB of ram? would a quad channel kit of 16gb 32gb be overkill lol?

For editing more RAM would make a difference, but for gaming 8GB should be more than enough.

Yeah X79, after looking at specs i really cant find any major differences between the Asus and the msi apart from one being bigger lol

Why do you need a 7200 rpm hard disk? I would suggest to buy more hard disk but less speed? For example the Western Digital WD30EZRX 3TB?

The Samsung ram overclocks like a monster. So you could get the 2400mhz from the Samsung, depending of course on the individual modules.

instead of putting $1000.00 into 2x gtx 670s i would get a gtx 690 that is equal to (just shy of) 2 gtx 680s in sli. Then you can still have room to grow later without compromising performance now.

Here is a potential build

PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($599.00 @ PCCaseGear)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80 92.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($129.99 @ Mwave Australia)
Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme3 ATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($235.00 @ PCCaseGear)
Memory: G.Skill Trident X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($479.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Hard Drive: Crucial M4 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($155.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($119.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($479.00 @ PCCaseGear)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($479.00 @ PCCaseGear)
Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case ($99.00 @ Scorptec)
Power Supply: Antec 750W ATX12V Power Supply ($119.00 @ Scorptec)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS90 DVD/CD Writer ($22.00 @ PCCaseGear)
Total: $2914.99
(Prices include shipping and discounts when available.)

The only issues I see is that the GTX 670 is not a great computational card like the GTX 570 was/is. You might be better off grabbing a Quadro and using it for editing. If I am not mistaken, a GTX 570 would even be better. thumb.gif

Also, SLI will not help editing what-so-ever. Faster RAM like the ones I have listed does not help gaming what-so-ever.

*spits* 2.4GHZ of 32 gigs? MUST GET BY XMAS.

But in all seriousness I'd reccomend 16 gigs of SAMSUNG Wonderam, a RIVE, and a Switch 810.
