Antec 920 burst/leaked, looking for additional ways to troubleshoot my motherboard.

So as the title says, my antec seems to have leaked everywhere(!) in my system. All over the back of the motherboard there is a weird white substance that is almost impossible to get off with rubbing alcohol and q-tips, but I don't know if it's just flux left over from manufacture (prolly not, 'm hoping)....

So... I'm going to pretend that the LCS didn't spray water/coolant everywhere and cause some sort of short. How do I go about troubleshooting my motherboard to make sure it's really dead?

When I turn attempt to turn on the system, the antec head unit gives me a red/or white flash then nothing happens. The PSU clicks like it's about to turn on, the fans on my GPU start to move (but don't) and nothing happens. I've taken everything apart and re-seated all connections (except the 920). The PSU functions fine in another system (Tried it on my "To Be A NAS " rig, and tried that rig's PSU on my system)

I haven't reseated the 920 because I don't have any TIM to put it back with, only the stock intel heatsink to use until I get another 920(hopefully, antec is still closed) and MB (again, hopefully from antec)

There is also a large volume of air in the 920's radiator (I don't remember it being there when I installed but it would awesome to confirm), along with that red light, and when plugged into the PSU/MB (CPU_FAN1) nothing happens.

So do you guys think this would just be the MB detecting a fault with the antec and not turning on?

(This is me basically hoping that I wont be out of a rig for however long and that I could just slap on my stock heatsink and get-er going)

Has anyone ever had experience with an antec 920 leaking and destroying hardware and how antec treated this situation and you?

I can't find anything via google, all that comes back is reviews and other non-relevant junk.

definitely dont put that leaky pos back in the system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

use the stock cooler, and run at stock voltages etc. do a stability test like ibt or prime and see if it is stable or heck even if it boots.

inspect all the peices for water damage. dont be lazy and hope. take them all out and physically look! look at all the capacitors and see if they are blown. you can tell because they will be domed or rounded if they are fluid caps. solid caps are really hard to see if they are blown or not. see if there are burn marks etc on the board. they will look brownish.

i would never use a CLS, its custom loop or air. i dont trust them plus they are only marginally better than air.

It was quiet, first system build, wont trust them anymore, that's for sure.

I'm not even sure if putting the stock heat sink back on because nothing happens when I try to boot it, would the antec prevent any booting (so it would boot with the stock HS but not the antec), and I don't have any extra TIM (nor money to buy) to just find out the hardway.

Thermal paste isn't absolutely required for testing purposes. Just slap the stock HS with whatever is left on the CPU after you take the 920 off. Just test to make sure everything is functional. If not, I would make an angry call to Antec and demand that they pay you back for damages caused by their faulty product. I'm assuming here that you didn't mod/drop/set the 920 on fire at any point in time. Good luck.
no it wont help it boot, but it will help it from not leaking again....

you dont have any more tim from the 920? also tim is like $3-$10. go look in the couch cushions lol

Contact Antec. There was a situation similar with a Corsair H50 ages ago, corsair replaced their whole system for them because it was the H50's fault.

I will try tonight, the stock HS still has the TIM that intel put on it out of the factory, should I worry about that?

No modding or abused in any way. Got it set-up in the case, and forgot about it (preventative (dusting)maintenance weekend was this past weekend, ironically).

They open in 15 minutes or so. Companies customer support is only open 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, and on PST (I'm on EST) no less!

Did they replace the monetary value of the system or send him parts?

I don't want to be out of a system for months redface.gif *cry

I knew I wasn't the only one, I was rendering some files one day when I came back and my computer had BSOD. Had been noticing higher than normal temps but I guess the extreme temps ruptured the seals in the pump housing. I had decided later on that day to do some fresh OC testing so I opened my computer up to clean out some dust when I noticed an odd white film on my GPU, I leaned into my computer with a flashlight to inspect this and I noticed a shimmer when I ran the flashlight over it so I quickly flicked the PSU switch and proceeded to clean up my system. I was lucky the liquid was non conductive or that would have been bad. redface.gif

Now I am running on stock HS. mad.gif

Edit:
Pay no attention to the cooling sig specs, was going to order those components to complete my loop but then my mouse died so I had to buy a new one and now I'm stuck with a 280 rad up top that I'm probably never going to use. lachen.gif

Yea, my wife was home with the system and I wasn't able do anything because she said that it just went off, she kept trying to turn it on and on and on and on...

Did that film come from the cooler for sure? I've got it on my GPU's PCB, all over the front and back of my MB, so that's what I'm thinking it is, from the antec.

No doubt about it, the film definitely came from the 620. Unfortunately for me I got it free in a trade so I'm not the original owner therefore I can't claim warranty. doh.gif
