[slashgear] Apple WWDC 2012 - Page 20

3D Google Earth (Coming to Maps also)

So this whole new Maps for iOS 6, which was developed by C3 technologies, and It's worth noting I have a video showing it running on an Ipad and a 7" Android tablet, is actually just as good as what Google already had planned yet Apple decided to leave Google maps, for what?

Can't find one? That means Apple are the first to do it (even though they didn't make the screens) it's innovation.
Creating a new type of screen like say amoled for example would be innovation.
Stuffing pixels in a screen isn't innovation. Pixels have always been in screens.

Give me screen real estate over small high dpi screen any day.

More screen real state and microscope to see what you're doing. I don't think you get it.

That's like saying making a new "fastest street-legal car" in the world isn't innovate at all. You don't think any innovation was needed to get that kind of DPI? You're being naive.

Really?

You people must be joking. Screen resolution isn't innovation. 3D display is a screen innovation.

Current solar panel technology gets about 20% efficiency, and even that is rare. If someone doubles that efficiency, it wouldn't be innovation?

I think the point he is trying to make is:

The actual screen Real Estate of 2880x1800 is the same as 1440 x 900. I guess it's "Resolutionary", or gimmicky, depending on how you want to look at it.

Granted, the IQ will be sharper.

I'm wondering if the MBP's will also suffer from...

How does this relate to adding more pixels to a screen?
What new technology was developed that made it possible to add more pixels to a screen that wasn't around before?

The solar panel being more efficient can be that something new was developed which led to the 20% increase.

"Retina" display is nothing new. Gimmick is gimmick.

last time I checked measurement is unuversal.

15" with 1024x768 has the same real estate as 15" with "Retina" display.

The screen remaining the same size (at 4x the resolution) is the feature. It wouldn't matter if they made huge screen with this resolution. I have both an iPad 2 and 3, the yellowing on the 3 is minimal IMO, hardly noticeable even when I have them side by side, but especially not noticeable when you're not comparing them side-by-side. Not that the yellowing should happen, but the number of people that notice or are even affected by it are probably an extremely small percentage. Color temperatures are adjustable on notebooks anyway, so it shouldn't matter.
