[USA Today] New Apple MacBook Pro gets thinner; has Retina display - Page 21

Man I'm so jelly. I want a 5120x2880 27 inch iMac -- I was disappointed they didn't update the iMac, hopefully they'll do it in a month or two.

IIRC, aren't iMacs updated around November-December?
I could be wrong though since Apple's refresh cycles have been changed up.

That was back in 2009, the average release is 273 days so it will continually change. The last iMac refresh was in May, and it's been 406 days since then so we're well over due.

Bah, my macbook had its boot up options locked down, (I hire it from school), but it was possible to remove it by booting up with only 1 stick on RAM, bashing some keyboard shortcuts, then putting the second stick back in.

I guess that isn't possible anymore

Apple's displays are excellent. Retarded retina naming scheme aside, give me that panel right now, please, in a properly designed solid plastic chassis and cooling so my balls don't fuse together. Not to mention a reasonable price point.

Hell, give me that display as a standalone 25 incher for my desktop!

I'm impressed they let you decide the scaling. Didn't think that'd happen.
I really just want the screen...

I suppose your solution is just to keep using our 20 year old CRTs and be happy watching DVDs at 800x600, but some of us would rather move on.
Someone has to buck the trend, and I greatly appreciate that Apple has the foresight and generosity to be the first one to make a serious attempt at going beyond the status-quo.
This. You won't get 2880x1800 content without 2880x1800 screens.

Just curious.

It will not scale like OS X. The UI will be super tiny unless the BootCamp software set the PPI scaling on it.

What are you talking about, Windows, since at least XP, can scale for high DPI displays. You used to even under scale.

Though this won't be initially. You'll have to set such.

This.

I don't know what the other posters were thinking...in order for a fan to work at all you need an intake and an exhaust, or else the laptop would keep getting hotter and hotter until it shuts down. That's basic logic right there. If it didn't have an intake, there wouldn't be much reason to put a fan in there.

No, all you need is the air traveling over the pipe to be less then the pipe itself, and that will be the case. Performance will increase if the air traveling over the pipe is signficantly less then the pipe itself, while also considering if the mass flow is also relatively large. Just because the heat pipe is sitting at 90 [C] does not mean it magically puts the entire system in a state in which it is 90 [C]. It actually doesn't transfer that well to the surroundings (air / chassis). That is why you...kinda...uh...use the fan...as...passive....isn't...effective.

Drawing air into the case, based on what was displayed on this thread, is going to case signficantly less mass air flow as opposed to just pushing it out the back.
