i7 3770k vs i7 3930k surround/eyefinity

Thread Starter
I have a opporunity to pick up the i7 3930k for a little bit less than a i7 3770k.

Just wondering if I should go with IB for the cheaper MB cost? P9X79 Pro vs. other Z77 boards.

I run 3 monitors and are planning to go 2 or even 3 gfx cards.

My i7 950 is showing its age, (had 2 gtx480, and the 3 monitor gameplay really stress the CPU, but 1.5gb Vram simply is not enough).

I aim for 4.5~ 4.7ghz, should my H70 (the original, not the core version) handle the SB-E? or maybe the IB if I go that route?

Thanks in advnace!

Get the hex-core, it'll be more future proof and is cheaper in your case, plus more PCIe lanes

I was jumping from 950 to 3930k , its really worthy but you can get 3770k for gaming . its totally plenty for you , also if you want go for 3930k and oc to to 4.5-4.7ghz , i wouldnt suggest you use h70 becuz 3930k runs hot , the best option is go for custom watercooling , even right now i am using h100 , i still cant lower my temp very well so i deicde to go custom wc kit

Thanks guys, well I already have the H70, so I don't plan on spending more on cooling just yet if it can handle at least to 4.5Ghz.

Or what should I be expecting the i7 3930k with a H70.

Running two cards or more is by default better on x79, hands down. I would rather take 40 lanes off the cpu over a PLX chip any day of the week.

Get the 3930k, For the H70 you will need to ask Corsair for the new bracket, the old model dont fit the 2011 socket, even on an Asus board with the 1366 changing socket bracket, i had to mod mine a little and it wasen't all that great. I changed it for a H100 and it's much much better. Depending on your ambiant you can get your chip to 4,8-5,0 with a H100 no problem.

Oh and all i had to do is to fill up a RMA for on Corsair site and they got in touch with the step by step of what i had to do to order the *Free* 2011 socket bracket thumb.gif

Congrats!

Just be sure to have some sort of active cooling on the VRMs on x79 mobos if you plan on overclocking that far. And h100 bare minimum.
