I would never buy a laptop without a two year warranty. Laptop parts are expensive, it's almost always worth the $100 even if you don't end up using it. After two years you'll want to upgrade anyway.

I said the same thing. Then I bought the M17X R2, that I have now, and off I went. wink.gif

It's all about knowing what you're buying and what the average lifespan the laptop has. The original M17x machines, the ones that featured the Core 2 Quads, are still alive and VERY much working in every respect. Though severely dated, the M17x R2 is built as an updated version TO the R1 model.

Personally, if I were to buy new, I'd buy the two year warranty with it. If it were used, it'd have to be something VERY special to really even HINT at my attentions.

The R2 I have cost me $1,200 total. (Bought the second 6970M for $300 shipped.) I'd like to see someone show a laptop that matches the same performance for that price point. wink.gif

If I had the money I would buy one just for the resolution alone..

You can say all the biased, brand loyalty hate for apple all you want. But right now it's the only company pushing resolutions higher! So tired of 1080p!

I can't wait for 4k.....

What's the point of that though?

There's no legitimate reason to go above 1080p for a 15", 17" or 18" screen. I mean, most desktop screens are 22" if they're 1080p...if not larger. I mean, the 16x10 resolutions and the super efficient OS that Apple uses currently are the chief selling points for most of their power users. (graphic artists an the like...)

There's a reason behind why the 1920x1200 screen isn't used on the M17x R3 and R4 laptops. That's why my R2 is so revered and sells for so much EVEN TODAY, being outdated by several factors; 8GB(2x4GB) DDR3 1333 maximum for RAM, 1st gen i7, GPU cooling only built for 75w TDP, etc. They are blindingly expensive and really just tend to require a LOT more maintenance to keep up and running.

That's not true -- the whole point is for a much sharper display. I can't wait until these displays work themselves over to 27 inch monitors!

Why all the bother about how great your alienware is compared to this macbook? Your laptop weighs three to eight pounds more than a retina macbook, it has half to two-thirds the battery life, it's an inch thicker and it requires a 240W power adapter. Personally I wouldn't take that thing off my desk, but, I dunno, I guess I don't travel a lot or anything and have a desktop at home.

Posted from 2006 macbook with all original parts and no services. Could've been posted from one of three unserviced ibooks I have around. smile.gif

You're right. There's no legitimate reason... If you've never seen one. You may not understand it now but it's going to be the standard in years to come, and for good reason.

I would wait until the second revision. There have already been people complaining about them overheating.
