Well he said that he will dig me up some RAM that will work. *shrug* It may be that there was a bug, but each core showed up as 8Ghz. Remember that we are talking about chips with unlocked multipliers here. I'm not arguing with you or anything like that I'm just trying to figure out what I saw.

Yeah all the world record overclockers use ES chips pretty much. I just dont see how a xeon could overclock higher than say a 670 ES. ES = Engineering sample which means unlocked multipliers.

7657.6 MHz = the world record. Done on a 670. If he was running 8ghz, he'd have the world record. 8ghz stable? Yeah riiiight lol.

What am I suposed to say? All the people on this internet site think I/you are lying about your overclock so could you please give me a CPU-Z shot so the size of my/your Epenis can grow? Yeah...I'm going to tell the guy that is giving me free s*** that I think he is lying. I think that will go over well.

You guys can just wait till I get my parts up and running and we'll see if it was a bug or what was up. I'm just really suprised by what I was seeing and I personally want to believe it's real. It doesn't mean it was and it doesn't mean it wasn't. I do understand the chances of it being real are slim, but I would love the chance of getting something that crazy!

If it was on a server board he didnt overclock it, when the 965's first came out, alot of people were seeing 6.0ghz on the boot screen and in windows, its just a bug due to the unlocked multi's and the not totaly supported chip. I dont dought that it read 8ghz, but to this day there isnt a single chip that has or can hit 8ghz via overclocking. Im sure once you get the system up and running you might see something like that but when you get a CPUZ shot you will know exactly what it is and what the actual clock is. Just dont hope for a 8ghz chip or even a 6.ghz chip as they dont exist.

Snerp. When you do get this stuff up and running, can you start a new thread about it, because there are two floating about the forum and a single one (once you've got it all up and running) would be really good, if possible .

Perhaps you'd be as kind as to make a build log, with some photos and then maybe some screenshots, with stock and (if possible) o/c performance etc.

That'd be really good, if it's not too much trouble. Thanks!

Highly-Annoyed

I'm with Adeoliver, because I used to have a 3.06ghz P4-M (SL7DT) that was overclocked to 15x250= 3.75ghz, but during POST the CPU was read as 23x250= 5.75ghz! The highest multiplier on the CPU was 23, I had changed it to 15, but the BIOS did not read this correctly so it reported a wrong CPU speed.

Maybe your server CPU is unlocked from 1X-30X, so BIOS calculates the CPU speed using the highest multiplier available...30x266= ~8ghz, even though your not actually running a 30X multi but more like a 10.5multi (10.5x266= ~2.8ghz (stock?)).

Only way to be sure is if you actually saw a CPU-Z, crystalCPUiD, or anyother CPU identifying program screenshot, because BIOS/POST speeds are not always right.

BIOS/Post shows the chip as a 3.73 Xeon
