I believe no matter what brand there are always going to be some problems. The upside to this is, I already ordered a new one, didn't want to wait for the RMA drive. So now..... RAID!!!!
There not all perfect. Sounds to me if you got unlucky.

I prefer Western Digital, but Seagate's good too. And for all you Maxtor-haters out there, I've never, ever had a Maxtor drive fail me... and besides, Maxtor's owned by Seagate now...

I have used seagate for along time in customer builds..none ever came back.
I had one that I bought oem from the egg. had no field value so i contacted seagate..they sent me an rma# I inquired with another question two days later before shipping to them and they responded your item has been shipped.
I had an rma for a 80gig they sent me a 250gig. So I would also agree that they have an awesome RMA program

I dont think it matters who owns Maxtor..The fact that its seagate makes it worse. Seagate should kick the people out who are making and developing these Maxtor drives that are still mostly problematic

This is pretty much the thread I was looking for... I need new HDs and wasnt sure about the brand. Im leaning away from Seagate, I got two Seagates not even three years ago. One died a couple months ago and one died yesterday. From reading a lot of threads on here I think I'll go with WD. Also my mom's factory Dell drive died a couple weeks ago after about seven years of use. Found a cheap Maxtor for her and it died the next day (probably bad from the factory).

I had a horrible experience with Seagate- They weren't able to replace my drive for well over 2 months, apparently they had "stocking issues", while they still managed to ship out the exact same drive to e-tailers like Newegg.

I will not buy another Seagate product, period.

WD FTW!
