viewing media on my tv

Thread Starter
Hi, not sure this is the right place for this but i will try any way

I currently watch movies on my tv via a usb dongle and am sick of having to change movies on it all the time.

Im not really wanting to built a HTPC and wonderd what u guys use for watching/viewing your media?.

Would i be able to use a external hard drive with a ethernet port connect and to my network and tv? (similer to what i do with my usb dongle at the moment)

Any help would be grateful, thanks

Which TV do you have? If it has built in ethernet you should absolutely use it to stream from your PC using a program like XBMC.

If it doesn't have built in network capability you can buy a network media player like one of these:

WD TV Live:
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B005KOZNBW/

Roku 2 XD:
http://www.amazon.com/Roku-XD-Streaming-Player-1080p/dp/B005CLPP8E/

There are many others that are similar. They can play off of external hdds and such attached directly, stream from your network or access services like netflix and huluplus.
