WHAT?

Drop the SSD's to 1x 256GB..
2x 670's.. Preferrably 4GB's.. Get the Samsung Eco RAM and overclock that...
XSPC Rasa 240/360 kit + liquid..
Let him choose a full sized ATX case.

Let him choose a keyboard and mouse..
Same with the mouse pad

As for the speakers some AudioEngine A5's would be nice.. But A2's would still be good

Why downgrade the GPU to upgrade the speakers? RAM does not necessarily matter in a GPU. He said he needed 500GB so that's why i have two 256GB SSD's. He also said he wanted air so the H100 is a good choice so you don't have to install all the complicated components to water cool the system but you still get water cooled performance in OC'ing ETC. It may not be on par with a completely liquid cooled setup but it rivals say a Noctua or Phantek. The 800D is a full sized case. The A5's are great but after the main system there was no room in the budget to put nice speakers.

so basically build the guy a $4k rig, and pay yourself $1k for labor and engineering & misc.

What'd I'd do:
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme LGA 2011 Intel X79 ($430)
3930K ($570)
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 2133 F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM x 4 ($276)
GTX 690 ($1000)
Corsair CORSAIR AX1200i ($350)
dell ultrasharp u2711 x1 ($850)
LIAN LI PC-Z60B ($200) (I picked it because I like it, and I know you can throw a drop in 360 rad into the top and have it look good - also for the blackout look, I like that no lights no windows no bay devices thing I've got going on)

AP-29 exhaust fan ($18)

WC stuff for CPU loop:
CPU-370 block ($80)
360 drop in rad ($140)
res/pump combo ($117)
pump controller ($35)
compression fittings ($26)
3/8" ID tubing ($12)
coolant ($15)
==WC loop ($425)

comes to $4120 give or take. I'd want to do two more good monitors, or a single 30", (or triple 30s), but that's out of budget.
Oh, right - storage - 480-512GB SSD $300-$500 (if you wanna go really nuts, OCZ RevoDrive X2 220GB for booting +$220).

Possibly use an epic air cooler / self contained WC loop (H100, ttake extreme, etc) to keep margins better / allow for more SSD epicness.

OP should'a bumped it - I've been wondering what he did, and am unable to assume that he ever built the guy anything.

You could not pay me enough to build a custom WC loop for a non-hobbyist.
