Are you mad at me for having this opinion? It seems like it.
And if you really want to know why I have a PC and a laptop I'll be happy to explain, please just ask.

it's not just you, it's a symptom of the internet and this site. your opinion has nothing to do with this thread, but is rather a drive by posting of you telling other people how they're wasting their money because you can't conceive spending your money the same way they do. again posts like yours are rampant on this site.

i read it in threads about apple, laptops, cellphones, components, etc. there is no shortage of people telling you that you are wasting your money on X or how stupid you are for buying Y, and it's not because they have ever had an experience with X or Y, just because that's how they feel based on other things they've read from like minded people.

i mean in this day and age is it really so hard to wrap your mind around why someone would want to be connected to the internet even away from home?

ever been waiting on an email, but had to leave the house?

ever been in your car and needed to find a place that sold widgets and you can't remember the name of the place?

hell ever been arguing about who was in a movie when your at a bar with your friends?

and let's not even get into the social media aspects of smartphones, but there'll be people who tell you why they hate those and how no one should use them either.

so no, i don't hate your opinion. i just hate that you feel so compelled to share it in such detail in a thread where it doesn't belong. it's no better than driving by an apple thread, not reading anything in it and writing "typical apple."

it's a waste of space, and derails threads.

so you know, i am derailing this one by writing all of this in the hopes that you "get it" and don't do this again. do a search on google, start your own thread in the cell phone section, just don't come into a thread and throw around your narrow-minded opinion when it has nothing to do with the OP.

This is NOT worse.

Do the math. If you have 2 phones or more and you're not on a grandfathered unlimited data plan, it's actually better. rolleyes.gif

That should be obvious. I mentioned the always-connected syndrome, not people who need to shoot off an email after discussing an idea with a colleague from a cafe or whatever other scenario you can come up with.

ever been waiting on an email, but had to leave the house?

Nope. My current business and previous business do not rely on email, nor do my social extensions or otherwise. I'm sure it's different for other people.

ever been in your car and needed to find a place that sold widgets and you can't remember the name of the place?

Nope. Not once.

hell ever been arguing about who was in a movie when your at a bar with your friends?

Sure, hasn't everyone? But then when we usually don't have access to Google via some smart phone we leave it at - "It'll come to us when we least expect it." or "I'll be sure to prove it to you when I get the chance, you silly goose, you know it was so and so....." But then again, I don't really care who played who in a movie (for the most part), nor do I find it necessary to quote movies in social situations either. But again, that's just me.

and let's not even get into the social media aspects of smartphones, but there'll be people who tell you why they hate those and how no one should use them either.

Everyone has their thing. I get it. I said I don't understand it. I mean I can grasp at fundamental driving forces behind it but still don't quite comprehend the necessity of it.

so no, i don't hate your opinion. i just hate that you feel so compelled to share it in such detail in a thread where it doesn't belong. it's no better than driving by an apple thread, not reading anything in it and writing "typical apple."

it's a waste of space, and derails threads.

I answered your direct questions in bold. For the rest -

If I were to post a dissection of the rates and fees of each carrier, Verizon first because of this dealing, after having read the article and watching a few business-hour discussions on it, I still come away, "Holy s***, how do people pay so much money to be constantly connected, at any time, away from or near the house, at any given moment their heart desires; or for what is becoming a syndrome - a necessity." We're not talking about minorities of people here, we talking millions, probably on the order of 1 in 4.

That's what I pull from it. I see a company upgrading infrastructure like Verizon, have my best friend work in that specific industry, and know direct related costs of things (through him) and still I wonder how the companies (especially with texting) can get away with the fees.

So while you feel the need to tell me that my post may not reflect relevance in the thread, in my perception (though I may not explain all the details in my post as to why I post what I post), I'll continue to post my opinion on the topic as I see fit.

The world is today what it is; I'm sure we agree on that. But the world we live in today isn't the same world that I grew up in and maybe that's why I have the views I have. I don't know how old you are but if you're roughly at an age of 14~20 I can see how the world you live and grew up in is completely different. I have no qualms about that - I just don't get it. In the same way that my mother doesn't understand the sarcasm brought forth by many comics in the 80's.

But if you really want to stop others from voicing opinions you feel unfit for 'wasting space' and that shouldn't be in a thread, make a campaign about it - get some signatures, start your own forum or something. thumb.gif

all that you just posted was again, completely missing my point which is you're still not talking about the OP or anything other than how you personally feel about smartphones.

i mean i guess it's better than the other people who drive by and say "$X for Y gigs, verizon is screwing everyone over" even though the people who have family plans for the most part have compared and would save a good bit of money, but not really by much.

i don't need a new forum to oppress opinions. i welcome differing opinions and lively debate, all i want is it to be in a place where it belongs so when i read threads about topics that interest me i don't have to go through endless posts like yours that have nothing to do with the topic.

a lack of empathy (for lack of a better term) for people with different needs/wants than your own is the root cause for most posts like yours.
