3570K + Z77 Sabertooth - or iPad

Thread Starter
Right, I have a bit of a dilemma at the moment, I have about £400 to spend, and what I have narrowed it down to is either a new CPU and mobo or an ipad.

PC

Intel Core i5-3570K
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-418-IN £180 (i already have a corsair h100)

Asus Z77 Sabertooth
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-512-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2261 £180

total £360

or the new ipad . .. . .

Now, there's nothing wrong with my phenom x6, but, i feel as if I'm missing out not having an Intel processor as my SB laptop is much faster than my main PC and that is quite annoying . . .

Also how is the over clocking with IB, I assume that stock 3.4 GHz should be fast enough for gaming, but considering I have a H100 is 4.4GHz possible like SB?

One last thing, I quite like the look of the ASUS ROG boards so I may want to wait for the new Maximus board, but the sabertooth wont be missing many features surely?

Cheers in advance for the advice smile.gif

I'm partial to the cpu/mb combo for some reason biggrin.gif Can't tell you what to do, but if you did decide to go with the parts, you should easily be able to do 4.4 with the h100. It's after 4.5 with the IB chips that things get sketchy.

I'm not a fan of apple, so I will refrain from commenting on the pc vs. ipad decision. tongue.gif

However, 4.4ghz is definitely possible, especially with that cooler. If you get unlucky, it might run a little hot, but you should hit 4.4 no problem (it will perform like a 4.6-4.7 sandy at this speed).

As for the sabertooth board, it seems to be one of the most popular z77 boards on this forum and everyone i have seen seems to love it.

you are going to get ZERO recomendations for the iPad here biggrin.gif. You should hit 4.4 on a H100.

^^ Haha, somehow I doubted that I would get much support for the iPad.

Cheers for the advice, it looks like the sabertooth and 3570k is a good choice then and i should be able to see a +1GHz OC.

I might also consider picking up another 570 at some point in the future now that i will have a chip that could push them and a mobo that supports SLI.

Just another question about overcloking: On my laptop I have turbo boost 2.0 that pushes clockrate when there is some demand on the system, is it possible to overclock the 3570k in a way that it stays at its base 3.4 GHz normally but ramps up to say 4.4 when under load, with the appropriate voltage of course?
