I agree It is a bit odd that external drives have stayed similar in price. It's probably a byproduct of the long term agreements someone spoke of in an earlier post. But you'd think that they would have jacked the price a bit when the price jumped.

The keyword is "agreement". For collusion, you have to prove the companies communicated with each other about prices. Otherwise, they can just say they are responding to market supply and demand.


External HDDs probably sold to OEMs and/or allocated in advance which locks in price.

I haven' t had a problem buying storage like most people here have. I really don't understand what the fuss is all about. Just buy external drives and rip them open.

This guy here bought 6 Hitachi Touro Pro 3TB drives (uses 7K3000). 18TB he should be able to ride out his storage needs for a year or two.

Fast forward to 8:01.

It's nowhere near as bad as it was a few months ago, but it's still not quite as amazing as early last year. I got two 2TB WD Greens in January last year for something like $70-80 each after rebates. Newegg is showing the cheapest 2TB at around $100 currently, so that's still a $20-30 difference.

Was in my local pc world today testing out the mechanical keyboards for myself and browsed some of the prices of hdd's/ssd's.

It was £100 for 1tb green 5400rpm hard drive.
£95 for 500gb 7200rpm green hard drive.

Then £79 for a 128gb agility ssd!
I know it's no where near as much space but price performance wise even for loading games onto it, I would much rather grab the ssd for the prices atm.

No worries on lowering your prices on HDD. I do not require your products any longer. SSD Manufacturers hit the spot on price vs capacity this month for me. Now I can load all my actively played games on SSD's.

FRAK, well I'm gonna manage my 1.5 TB space till then.

I dunno what y'all are on abotu on SSDs.

Decently priced ones are just 120gB, meaning you can only install several programs and your OS and its not like you can install steam on there because Steam games eat up space. So what kind of benefits can you get from SSDs? and correct me if I am wrong please...I would like to get one but at the limited space, I just don't see how they are worth it
