EK Nickel Plating still a problem??

Thread Starter
I purchased one of these yesterday and then came across some threads about how EK had serious issues with their nickel plated blocks flaking and getting corroded. Is this still an issue or has it been resolved? Should I return this block and go for the Danger Den full cover block instead?

They changed their nickel plating process last year. That supposedly fixed the problem.

That said, do a search for their customer service during and after it and how they blamed everything from the resellers to distilled water for the issue and you will find they are a terrible company that alot of us will never do business with again.

Yea I've been reading about that. Unfortunately I already purchased the block. I'm just concerned whether or not I will have any issues with it flaking/corroding. But honestly, with the way EK is going with their new designs they will be losing plenty of customers regardless of their customer service. Those things are HIDEOUS.

I agree, but I did not want to flame them and I had 5 blocks to RMA.

So did they agree to RMA them all? If so, your hella lucky.

Yes, all of my blocks were replaced and I sold them, I hate the look of copper.

So with the new EK Nickel blocks, can I not use PT Nuke in my loop? I usually just use distilled water with 1-2 drops of PT Nuke in my loops. This time around I'm also adding a Mayhems Dye. Is there anything specific I should know about what I can use in my loop?

If you intend to use Mayhem's Dye, use his biocide. BTW, PT is acidic, PH nuke is a better solution, but I would use Mayhem's biocide.

Thanks. I was only going to use the PT Nuke since I had it already. I think I'll pick up the Mayhem's biocide.

EDIT: Are you sure Mayhem's is different from PT Nuke? I've seen some people say it's basically the same thing and is copper based as well.
