EK Nickel Plating still a problem?? - Page 4

I have been running EK nickle blocks (2 gpu, 1 MB , and 1 cpu block) for about 2 years now on just tap water and 1 silver kill coil. Opened up a few months ago because I moved and they looked almost brand new. Maybe I just got lucky.

Yeah, its likely you are. I have Ek Supreme Hf and I disassembled my pc yesterday and look into the inlet and outlet of the waterblock and the corrosion has just started ( I'm not going to change it, at least not right now, I hope it pulls through a year or so) but man that was disappointing ...

Is it corrosion or actual flaking of the nickel plating?

I would say it is flaking in the corners. The surface is just discolored, not something to care about.

Just wanted to jump on the topic here. I'm not sure what to do about mine. I just bot the EX240 kit with Raystorm block. And I'm adding my GPU to the loop But I'm running a GTX 480. I originally bought a XSPC Razor for, i placed my order i got a call saying they were out of stock and that they would ship me a EK FC-480 instead. Well i have always read good thing about EK and the only reason i didn't buy one initially was because of pricing/availability. So i just said yeah sure that's fine. After i got it in i found it was the nickel plated plexi version. Which was fine till the last few days i have been reading about the flaking. I haven't setup the loop yet but its going to be a d5 EX240 kit with Raystorm block wih Alphacool Ultra Pure distilled and kill coil. I just need to know before i start. what could i possibly get into with adding this block. I am just concerned about how soon to start worrying with the flaking. I guess the only plus side to this is the Plexi version means i can see inside the block and will know when it starts flaking.

Any suggestions?

Sorry if I'm hijacking a thread just looking for some answers.

It's basically a coin toss. I lost 5 blocks due to the nickel issue so I am somewhat biased.

Sorry, I've been "out of the loop" for a year or more, and am now just coming back to it, so forgive me if it seems a silly question.. but is this problem isolated to certain years/blocks? Or is it all of their blocks from all time?

A couple of years ago I bought two extra blocks for some GTX 480s, the nickel full blocks from EK, but never got around to using them, they've just been sitting in their boxes. Would these blocks from back then also be suspect? At the time, EK blocks were all the rage

Cheers
