[consumerist] Newegg: Installing Linux On Your Computer Is Basically The Same As Breaking It - Page 20

Don't see how many of you don't see this as being similar to flashing a different custom ROM on an Android phone and trying to get it repaired/activated at your local wireless store. They wouldn't accept it unless it was flashed back to stock.

You can brick a phone with a flashing gone wrong. You cannot brick a computer with an OS installation gone wrong.

Even more. My computer is absolutely functional without an OS at all. Asus ExpressGate can cover your needs.

It doesn't matter whether it is broken or not because of the OS. So much arguing about it. It's not neweggs fault that the customer was retarded enough to not put the default os back with the product key readily available on the computer. Seriously, how is this a 20 page issue?

AHH ANOLOGYS xD

Wrong. since BIOS is basic input output. the OS runs all the hardware for primary use. So my analogy was correct.

P.S. its ANALOGY not ANOLOGY. thumb.gif

I agree its a 20 page issue cause people seem to think newegg is evil because of his on personal mistake.

I think I might just flash my phone's rom and then try and rma it. herp derp....

Why does it not matter? Does it actually say that in Newegg's RMA/return policy? If not, are people supposed to randomly infer what the terms of the warranty are?

I cant spell to save my life thumb.gif

Flashing your Phones ROM is usualy Againt the TOS of the phone itself, when you get a windows laptop it encourages yo to do exctly this so flashing a phone =/= reinstalling a os ~(most phones you dont even have root)

Also the OS of the ECU is not meant to be changed so its a warped but but i guess sort of ... maybe

This is why I like statutory warranties. It doesn't matter if the retailer or manufacturer decides that you've voided their warranty, the manufacturer still has a legal obligation to provide you with a product that isn't faulty and rectify any case where it is.

That happens a lot around here, and SHE got her money back. Most major retail outlets all pull the same crap when it comes to notebooks. Bestbuy is the worst.
