Hi guys,
Looking for a new laptop for my sister. Her budget is less than $500, and I'm having a hard time deciding if an i3 is going to be a better choice, or something like the A6.

I'm hoping that some of you with experience with the AutoDesk/AutoCAD stuff can give me an informed opinion as to which will be a better choice. I was kind of figuring that the A6 might be due to the graphics performance, but need verification of that.

What do you guys think?

Go with the APU unless you're getting a dedicated GPU.

AutoCAD will run fine on most machines once it loads up. It depends on how complex your drawing gets. You don't need a whole lot to get started, but if you want to do more complex designs you'll need more power to run it well.

Do you any idea what she'll be doing in AutoCAD?

She says probably pretty simple 3D drawings of parts, putting them in an assembly, and making presentations. She's a mechanical engineering student using the AutoDesk Inventor, so I'm not sure if that's full-blown AutoCAD or not.

Is it pretty safe to say the HD3000 would have no chance of running something like this? Or would it be kind of a wash?

I would grab an A6 for a laptop, either will "work." But an A6 should work better

. Only issue I have with laptops is generally they come with a slow, small amount of RAM. You might want to upgrade the RAM and maybe even put in a SSD.... SSD would have the lesser of the priority since they are more expensive

Definitely an AMD CPU.
for that amount of money you won;t be able to get a very strong GPU and most likly you will have to go with HD4000 , which ins' bad but for CAD you probaby won't something more powerfull.
But make sure you get the new Trinity APU's.

Go for Dell Vostro 3700 or 3750 or Later if budget is tight

Go for Dell Precision if no budget problem

Also you can go for OEM from Anadem

These are the best to use with All Autodesk products.
