CPU Cooler for Ivy Bridge

Thread Starter
So I'm going to be upgrading to Ivy Bridge and I'm currently looking around for a CPU cooler. I want something that has a nice mixture of good performance and quietness for under $100.

I've been looking at the Antec Kuhler 620/920, Noctua NH-D14, and the Corsair H80/H100.

I'm planning to overclock the Ivy Bridge to 4.0 Ghz.

All of the coolers that you suggested will be more than enough for IB @ 4.0GHz. All can be run quite quietly, and in the case of the Antec and corsairs, the fans can be replaced with ap-15's for quiet high performance. However, if you don't plan on ocing that high, why not save your money and buy a CM 212+ as it would handle the temps fine.

Are you going for a 3570k or a 3770k? I run my 3770k on stock intel hsf (i know its sad but i wait for my block to arrive) at 4,03ghz and i max at 85C (linx/prime) with a 26C ambient temp. So every option you have will work great.

edit: or get the best you can, like H100 with AP15, and push it even more

I run my 3570k at 4.2GHz and the stock voltage with a H100. It's overkill, but the aesthetics are nice and it's quiet with the Cougar fans I use on the radiator. My CPU idles at around 32c and peaks around 65c under load. And this is with the H100 pump undervolted and running about 400RPM under stock to eliminate the pump grinding noise (waiting for Corsair the problem is fixed before submitting a RMA). As was said above, even a CM Hyper 212 will do the job nicely at that clock.

will the Cooler Master TPC work.

The 3770K runs nice and cool man. You can't go wrong with the coolers you've mentioned and at a 4.2 OC even. Get the biggest cooler that you can afford now, so you can push it more later when technology is advancing around you...

I have a DeepCool Gammaxx300 23€ cooler and i have my 3570K @ 4500MHz 65ºC runing Prime 95 1hour.... so no real need in getting a monster cooler. i Would suggest the HR-02 Macho or the i30 pretty good price/performance. If you choose the D14 and those other monsters is wasting money in my opinion...
