Look at the pictures and read the description, they require at least a 150HP engine and come with either a "boat unit" (engine fixed on your boat) or the hose is attached to a powerful enough jet ski which stays stationary. You can't get enough lift from a water jet to get airborne if you carry the engine as well and for the same reason you won't drag the engine very far/fast.

I feel like someone could make something that does this exact thing on their own for much less than $100k. Maybe I'm clueless, but it doesn't seem like 100 grand worth of technology to me.

If it is like the regular jetpack model then it has one of these
353

That is a boat unit, it drags that along behind the hose.

That does not stay stationary, so u can go wherever you like!

Two of them are attached to jetskis and use the jetski motors to suck up water.
A 3rd one is attached to a small boat that holds the pump.

In all cases, you are tethered to the motor, which is floating on the water and not flying on your back.

The $100k version comes with the boat+motor.
The $8k & $9k versions are kits to modify your current jetski.
