Axi your idea seems plausible with the prize system above. But at the same time could create a disparity between the different divisions in the matter of fairness. Remember that its not always about the hardware. I have seen a 2500k Overclocked to almost 5ghz get almost no -bigadv WU and a 2500k at 4.2ghz get nothing but -bigadv. Its the luck of the draw on which work units that you get too. This is of course not as common but it does happen. Its a lot to think about here. I will post the link up in my Team Thread and try to get a response from my team.

Well bigadv likely won't be a "problem" much longer as most of our rigs won't be eligible once Stanford makes the alleged change.

I hate complicating things, but would there be a way to weight the "value" of folders on a fair scale? Consistency/PPD generation? or something like that.

However what I would want to see on a division 3 is a place for people on standby (actively folding) ready to take over when people quit or retire.
I thought of and idea. Keep the teams structured similar to the way they are but have a wildcard, or hot seat category. The top performers in Div 3 can fill the hot seat position in Div 1 and Div 2 teams. If they continue to out perform others in Div 3 they will remain.
Just a thought, also an incentive to perform well in Div 3 while on "standby"

Think outside the box of your team since everyone on your team folds well. thinking.gif Imagine Donkey consistanly places in 19th or 20th in his category. It's pretty obvious something is up there because he shouldn't be that bad. Do I need to kick him out since you have continually tried to help him increase his numbers, or does this proposed provision really help fix your team, and or motivate Donkey to quit being a Donkey? It could also be a quarterly change rather than monthly. Just anything to get the folding hacks to step it up and make the comp more elite!

I like the idea of the third division but I agree it's going to be hard to keep people motivated to stay in it. Especially the people without high end hardware who are not in the top ranks and not being chosen for teams; also known as the people without money. If we offered top prizes for top folders it would eventually just be the same people who'd win over and over.

A possible scenario would be to do something similar to what Admin does for the whole team with the monthly cash prizes. When you hit a certain tier you are eligible for better prizes. If we do some calculations and set some numbers that pretty much force people to fold 20/7 if they want to hit that number and be eligible for a prize.

For Example:
(None of the following numbers are real and completely random)

If we set the minimum for the i7 group at 500,000 in a month, then you are entered for a chance to win baked goods or a cash prize. But you must hit that number to even be entered for a prize. This way people are forced to fold 20/7 and it won't be the same winners every month.

We could even offer long term prizes such as if you did that for 6 months in a row you could get an OC'd account, BUT you would have to keep hitting that number monthly to keep it.

It looks like you're trying to set up something of a TC draft, though I'm not certain if you're suggesting that each folder in the TC must do time in Division 3 before becoming a member of a regular team. Can you clarify that a bit?

I like the idea of having a pool of 'proven' members from which to draw in the event of a team member having to drop out permanently. As to your issue of motivation, well, that can be addressed through a ranking system and having teams compete in one way or another for high performers.

What I don't like is the possibility of mandatory bumps for poor performers. We all have bad months from time to time. That can't be avoided, but a folder shouldn't lose a spot on his team because of it. That's a decision that should be left to the team captain with input from the other team members. Instead we should encourage our poor performers and offer to help them work out hardware and software issues in order to improve performance. That's what leads to team cohesion and a sense of accomplishment: A feeling that we all contribute to the team by helping each other work toward our best possible performance.

Summary: Go forward with Division 3, develop a system for teams to compete for high performing Division 3 folders, and allow captains to make the decision to cut a team member.

I think that it should be left up to the team to decide and not just the captains. On the other hand, as well, @Desert Rat, not everyone has a dedicated folding rig. So in that respect, it would just be one person's budget against another's. If two people were to fold, one for the required 20/7 on their only rig, and the other 24/7 on their dedicated rig, of course there will be a points difference. Yes it would make the competition more elite, but at what social cost to OCN?

I see what you did there.

I have to clarify this, I believe. tongue.gif Division III is being implemented. That's not up for discussion. Division III's primary purpose is to increase 24/7 folding, quickly replace/temp team vacancies, and create an infinite bucket of ready reserve folders.

Everything else we are discussing would potentially be implemented at a later date, or some very good ideas could be implemented sooner.

Here is the missing point so far. When I recruited, I found a fair amount of people interested in folding, but there were no spots open for them to fill. They could not join something at their highest point of interest, so I filed them away in a folder labled, "Potential Future TC Folders."

When I went back to this folder and sent a PM when a spot opened, I got responses like, "I'm no longer Interested" "I joined BOINC" or no reply.

This gives them somewhere to go right away, and eventually when teams are filled up, people can jump in who have earned it.

Honestly, I think the competition should be enough to draw them in and keep them folding, I mean that's what has worked for all of us.

Also, I think we should open up the rules a little more as well, I think that if there are 6 folders (of the right breakdown of course) in Div3 that want to ban together and form a team, we should allow that as well. I don't see any reason (other than the stats page) why we can't let more than 10 teams into Div2. I think this would not only encourage people to join in Div3, I think it would also encourage them to recruit as well.

As for dropping people from the teams, I'm against letting anyone from my team go without the members of my team having some say in the matter. This month both of my i7 folders had issues and are ranked 9th in their cats, but I wouldn't let them go for anything. They are both now back up and running and we should have a great month next month. I don't want to have a good folder taken away from my team because of a rule, that just seems wrong.

Anyway, you asked and there are my 2cents.gif.
