Loud buzzing sound while using Skype.

When I'm talking to my mates on Skype I always hear incredibly high buzzing sound from them after few minutes, but if they tap their mics, it stops and come back in 5 minutes..

What in the world could be causing this?

It's been a week since you posted, but i hope that you read this and the last 15 minutes of my life were not in vain. (let me know if you read this and it helps).

Here is what skype does: It tries to automatically adjust the volume so it is at a constant level. So, if no one is talking on the other side, it keeps increasing and increasing and increasing the volume.

If your microphone/webcam/sound-card has a terrible signal-to-noise ratio, this causes all sorts of annoying noises as a result of feedback. Then, you start talking (or tap the microphone) skype automatically turns the microphone volume down and the feedback goes away.

You have x2 solutions:

1.) Set up skype to not automatically screw with your microphone volume. Set microphone volume to manual. Go into skype --> tools --> options --> general --> audio settings. Have you and the person your skyping with un-check "automatically adjust microphone settings". Manually set the volume to a good setting in the middle. You may have to "tinker" with this setting to you find a level that does not have feedback.

2.) Don't use the audio on a webcam, these are notorious for having feedback problems. Have both party's use a high quality headset going into a decent sound card. (yeah,.....this approach might be less practical).

You are something else! Not only did one of your two solutions help, but both.

First I told my mate to configure his mic from automatic to manual, helped a bit but incredibly low volume, could barely hear from him after that.

So I asked him.. "You don't happen to have a webcam as your mic, you moron?"

And the moron replies. "Well, that I do, my great brave notoriously heroic friend. Why is thy asking?"

- Long story short -

30 minutes later he was back with his new microphone and everybody lived happily ever after.
