Your Radeon 7850 overclocking results?

Thread Starter
I opened this thread just to see how far people can overclock their 7850 (mostly at stock voltage).

I have the reference HIS Radeon 7850 2GB.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161406

486

I managed to overclock to 1150 core and 1275 memory, without any changes to the voltage.
I had the memory at 1350 with 1050 core, but I was experiencing freezes so I lowered it to 1275 for now (I can't be sure if it was the memory causing the problem).

Stability?

337

My max temp was actually 61C @ 50% fan speed and 59C @ 100% fan speed, and the program I used was MSI Kombustor.
My airflow in the case isn't the best; it just has a 120mm fan @ 1326rpm at the side of the case pointing straight at the top of the GPU and an 80mm exhaust.
Also, my room temperature was 20C.

Edit: Ran MSI Kombuster for 30 mins and everything looks fine.

Results?

700

Yes, I know my Phenom 955 @ 3.5ghz is kind of bottlenecking, but I don't think it is an issue in games. Is it? biggrin.gif

Comparing my 3Dmark11 score with the one on this website...

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1863/14/

my results are just a bit higher than the stock Radeon 7870.

Edit: Just saw the screenshot and it seems small so just to confirm...

Stock 7850 graphics score: 5042
Overclocked 7850 (1150/1275): 6322
Stock 7870 graphics score: 6201

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18389760

According to the link above(skip to post #11), someone got his Radeon 7850 to 1200 core and 1450 memory and according to the screenshot his voltage is lower than mine. bigeyedsmiley.png

My goal right now is to outperform the gtx 570 or the gtx 580.

Any thoughts, opinions?

1150 MHz on stock voltage sounds great. My card's limit on stock voltage seems to be 1050 MHz. Ironical, since that is its maximum allowed core clock without enabling unofficial overclocking. When I increased it to 1060 MHz it crashed in Crysis 2 after about 20-30 minutes if I recall correctly.

I can scale all the way to 1200mhz core @ 1.25v with mine with +20% power limit. But then the problem I have is the performance I get with 1200/5800 is much lower than my current 1050 @ stock 1.138v +5% power limit setting. As long as I go pass 1.15v on the voltage, my performance degrades... madsmiley.png

1200/1500 1.225v, or 1100/1450 stock voltage

Woah, that's a GTX 580 right there thumb.gif

I guess the highest overclock on stock voltage for the Radeon 7850 can give the same results as a stock GTX 570.

I know this thread is old but...I got my Radeon 7850 to 1200 core 1350 memory on STOCK VOLTAGE! (it can probably do higher, I just didn't try yet biggrin.gif)

*Is it worth it to increase the memory clock? Any major performance increase?

Edit:
Just for reference...

A Radeon 7850 overclocked to 1150 core 1275 memory will give almost the same performance as the stock Radeon 7950 or an overclocked GTX 580 (almost the graphics score in 3dmark11). thumb.gif

This makes me anxious to get my 7850 biggrin.gif. I would also try to push that 955 a little further, an H50 at 3.5GHz seems like a waste to me.

A HD 7850 overclocked to 1150 - 1200 Mhz will maybe just tie HD 7870 and get you close to GTX 580 perf in games. it can't beat stock GTX 580. its as simple as that. As for a Radeon HD 7950 its a different beast. Even the ref cards do 1 Ghz at stock voltage. That would put you close to HD 7970 perf. A heavily overclocked HD 7950 at 1150 Mhz will beat the HD 7870 OC (1250 Mhz) by 20 - 25% easily and smash the HD 7850 (1150 - 1200 Mhz) by 40 - 50%. biggrin.gif

I can push it to 3.8 ghz or 4.0 ghz, but do to so I have to increase the voltage, which I am hesitant to do because my motherboard mosfets don't have cooling on them. Also I'm running at stock voltage for the cpu and 3.5 ghz apparently is the highest I can go. redface.gif

@ Raghu78

Wow, you are absolutely correct. Thanks for the link. I guess I just achieved close to gtx 580 perf. only in 3dmark11 and unigine heaven benchmark.

So just to get it straight

To get almost exactly GTX 570 perf. you need to get a Radeon 7850 to 1000/1225.

To get close to GTX 580 perf. you need to get a Radeon 7850 to 1245/1545.

Does increasing the memory have a big impact on performance? I have the reference design 7850 so I can probably achieve 1580 which is higher than all the other designs according to the website.
