Your Radeon 7850 overclocking results? - Page 11

Running an HIS Ice Q X at stock voltage. Overclocked it 1050 core and 1300 memory.

Here's my results. I peaked at 60C @ 44% fan speed but overall I think it went well.

GPU tweak on the other hand varies voltage with GPU load. All you have to do is check unlock voltage control and enhance overclocking range, restart and you're good to go.

about benchmarking, you could do a 3dMark11 bench and a heaven run but it won't tell you for sure if your overclock is game stable or not. best thing to do is play an hour or two of BF3,FC3 of any other graphically intensive game.

having some issues with gpu tweak. everyting is unlocked, im able to move stuff up and down.. but the Memory Clock settings seem to be broken. i confirmed that the core clock and voltage are able to be changed. using gpuz, i can see the gpu clock settings change to the proper values that i chose. then with the voltage, when i run kombuster, it goes up to also the correct values that i choose. however, memory clock doesn't seem to want to budge.

also, i noticed that when i completely restart and load gpu tweak, the slider bars show my default settings.. except for memory clock. it defaults at 4800 and my default on my card should be 1200.

any ideas? i really dont want to resort to having to run 2 sep programs frown.gif

---EDIT---
did a search and now i know that gpu tweak displays memory clock at 4x the value. trixx seemed to work but just as you said, the voltage sticks to whatever the value is set in the overclock settings and never underclocks properly.

i retried gpu tweak with a memory clock value of 5000 and it correctly shows 1250 in gpuz. you'd think they'd realize this would confuse new people mad.gif

I can't comment on memory clock OC'ing because I found that the highest memory clock my card can handle only gave me a minimal 3dmark11 score increase over 1250. You could try several things

1. Did you restart? restarting is important.
2. Are you reading off the idle clock or the max?
3. If you don't mind Sapphire Trixx constantly overvolting your core then you could use it, it's a good program.
4. Do a 3dmark11 run with memory 1250 vs Max stable memory ( keep core the same) with AB or Trixx, and then decide if the difference in score is worth it. If it is, and GPU tweak doesn't work, your only choice would be to use the a different program, sorry. If you decide ( like me) that the difference isn't worth it, just stick to 1250 memory. I see absolutely no difference between 1250 and 1390 memory in BF3.

i ran the same settings as you along with stock volts and got only a max fps of 61. i did notice that you were using catalyst 12.8 drivers. im on the newest 12.10. could that be a reason im gettin just about max 60fps~ even on higher core clocks?

*facepalm* I completely missed the part where you were talking about effective memory clocks. I should read before posting next time, sorry.

haha no worries. now im just kinda thinking i got a dud in this lottery. my asic quality is 73.6% and i cant seem to get more tahn 60-63~ fps on heaven's benchmark. i even tried using a setting of 1200 core @ 1.225v with 1250 memory.... cut down my heaven settings to dx11, tessellation normal, shaders high, anisotrphy 4x, aa 4x. after 1 lap, i hit only an fps of 36 and max fps of 64.

are the 12.10 drivers bogging me down or am i doing something else wrong? im stumped confused.gif

---EDIT---

haha ok.. well now i remember something. i installed heaven last night very late and had no idea what i was doing.. i vividly remember something about vsync.. so i went into settings and sure enough, vsync was checkmarked. ::major face palm::

time to redo some benchmarks smile.gif

guess i lucked out.. tried doing a benchmark keeping my mem at stock (1200) and went to 1200core @ 1.200v.. crashed right when i clicked the benchmark button after loading.

try upping vcore to 1.205 and see if it still crashes. If it does then keep increasing by .05 increments until it's stable. when it is, start going down by .01 decrements until it crashes again. Once you've found the absolute lowest vcore needed to run 1200 core, loop heaven for about an hour and see if temps are in check and decide if its worth it or not. personally I could go upto 1220 with a few more volts but its not worth it.

EDIT: this is probably not how most people do it because its quite tedious, but I think its worth it to find that absolute lowest vcore

And regarding the benchmarks, it shouldnt be a problem as long as long as its in the same ballpark. his system could be vastly different from yours.
