Running 4.2Ghz ... at air with a crappy Cooler Master Rifle 4000rpm max ... 33 ~ 38C idle and 65C encoding video with TMPeG Video Mastering Works 5.0. im waiting my Arctic Freezer 7 PRO Rev.2 arrives within 2 weeks ...

My 5870 was starting to artifact under everyday usage, no overclock. So a friend gave me his old 7850 to hold me over. It is a Sapphire 7850 OC 2GB card with the nice dual fan cooler. It is definitely quieter than my old 5870 reference card.

Right now I bumped the gpu core to 1050, I had it up to 1175 but I am lowering it to 1050 until I get my maximum memory speed figured out. Also it can run 1050 on stock voltage of 1140, I have to up the voltage to hit 1175.

Here is my issue when I try to overclock the memory past 1300 I get artifacts while watching videos. I can run Heaven 3/4 for 20+ minutes without issue. I can play Diablo 3 ROS and Civ 5 for over an hour without issue. But youtube or videos in facebook will cause problems. Anybody else experience this?

I have the ASUS radeon 7850 2GB v2 (HD7850-DC2T-2GD5-V2) and currently I am running it:

Voltage: 1210mhz (Stock)
Core: 1150 (290mhz increase)
Memory: 1400mhz (200mhz increase)

I averaged 25.5 fps on maxed out Unigine Heaven with a score of 643

Not sure if it's entirely stable for anything outside of MSI Kombustor, but I did the GPU core burner (V2) for about 12 minutes without issue at 1220MHz Core @ 1225mV.

ASIC Quality: 71.5%
Power Limit: 50%

Edit: Nope, that went unstable real quick with GTA IV tongue.gif Dropped it in 25MHz increments and eventually got to 1125MHz stable.

After enabling voltage control in Afterburner, it showed I was at 1220mV. So if that was really my default voltage; it seems 1125MHz is as far as I can go.

Using a MSI R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC (using copper heatsinks on the VRMs; MSI shroud taken off):

(the black string is sewing thread; wasn't 100% confident in the glue holding too well over-time since I ripped the heatsinks off an old motherboard I had; will likely replace adhesive with Sekisui #5760).

(older shot of the GPU without VRM heatsinks and without shroud)

Not sure if taking off the shroud really does anything to help cooling; I just wasn't a fan of that gray color-scheme MSI went with.

Just need to figure out a better fan curve on Afterburner now...

how did you manage to make the heatsink stable did you use glue ? or just thermal paste will do the trick ???

I had previously just re-used the glue that was on the bottom of the heatsinks (was somewhat weak on a few heatsinks, so I reinforced it with some sewing thread).

I bought some #5760 Sekisui thermal adhesive tape, and it seems to hold the heatsinks on the VRMs and RAM really well by itself (made a video on the process here).
