SSD performance decreased after 4 months!!

Thread Starter
hi all,
i have the corsair force 3 120gb ssd. Back in feb 10th i ran some benchmarks and saved a screenshot of the results. Now i ran the same test and im getting significantly lower performance, see attachment!
the feb10 is on the left and todays is the right one!

364

the only difference between now and then is just that the drive is almost full, only 17gb left free....

can anyone tell me what could be causing this?
thank you in advance!

http://thessdreview.com/ssd-guides/optimization-guides/ssd-performance-loss-and-its-solution/

filling it up causes these problems.

Personally I just put my OS on the SSD and everything else on other drives. The performance increase you get from an SSD running things like games does not really give you a performance increase.

Probably b/c it is a SandForce SSD, SandForce drives usually slow down when they are/or near filed.

This only happens with sandforce drives? I thought if u had any ssd near capacity it would hurt perfomance.

Sandforce controllers are known to suffer from problems when they get that full, but I've heard complaints about Marvel and Indilinx chips too. I would delete what you can an then leave it on overnight so that garbage collection can catch up. Don't forget to check for a firmware update too. Should be good to go afterward all that. Good luck!

This article should help explain the differences between synchronous and asynchronous SSDs:
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/08/07/nand_flash_faces_off_synchronous_vs_asynchronous/3

Sandforce controller reserves SSD space to perform TRIM and other functions (over-provision 8GB) and so it should slow down .
SSDs with Marvell controller uses the embedded DDR ram to perform TRIM and other functions without over-provisioning SSD space.

Sandforce with Asynchronous NAND is like a double edged sword that cleaves off SSD speeds gradually over 3 years or less.
