Cursor issue with Skyrim

Hiya guys!

So, recently, skyrim started doing something odd: every time I open up a background window while the game is running, re-entering the game's fullscreen mode will cause two different cursors to show up. Both the targeting reticule and the desktop mouse are visible, and it's really irritating to have them both flying around... I was wondering if anybody else has had trouble with this, or if anybody might know how to fix it?

I had the same problem. I am running under windows 7 64 bit. Here's how I fixed it:

Uninstall any previously installed mouse drivers via Control Panel> Programs and Features. If you are just using plug and play and cannot find a driver to uninstall in the Programs and Features utility, then skip that step. Next Goto the manufacturer's website for your particular mouse and download then install the specific driver for your mouse that is compatable with your operating system.

If you are already using the appropriate manufacturer's mouse driver, try uninstalling it and then re-installing it, and/or looking for a more current release.

Even though Windows can make the mouse work, it appears to not fully support all the features in the mouse, like turning off the system cursor during Skyrim.

Something I forgot to mention, if you are running concurrent tasks along with Skyrim, and flipping between them using Alt-Tab, then once the system cursor returns with the secondary task, and you flip back to Skyrim, then that second cursor will remain active regardless of your mouse driver. To avoid this, or to get rid of the 2nd cursor, you need to quit Skyrim all the way to the desktop, then restart it, and then don't flip to the other task during your gaming session.

I had the same problem. I think I found a way to make it go away.

Before you ALT+TAB to your game after minimizing it, move the cursor to the top of the screen. After you ALT+TAB once, move the mouse to the middle of the screen and it should disappear. I always have to ALT+TAB twice for the game to start playing. Then ALT+TAB a second time and you should be ready to play with just one cursor!

I have exactly the same problem in windows 8, will try to install the drivers first.

This is a really delicate problem, couldnt they just make borderless maxed windowed mode work out of the box and these problems wouldnt exist.

Hitting ESC to bring up that menu before Alt-Tabbing out usually prevents it

I had this problem, but it was every time Skyrim started up, even without Alt-Tab...

The fix for me was go to the shortcut or .exe for Skyrim (.exe if you launch from Steam, I use a shortcut to Skyrim Script Extender due to SkyUI) then Properties, Compatibility and tick the 'Disable Visual Themes' option.

I confirm that this works for me. Thank you so much, now I don't have to restart my game every time I forget to open the menu first.
