Do i have the worst card ever or am i doing something wrong?

Man....just can't get this 6850 to 950 without some ridiculous volts.. I mean it didn't even last 5 minutes of DX11 Kombustor @ 950/1100 1.210 Volts. Am i missing something here? Or is my card just really bad? Because the highest i can seem to get stable is around 920/1100. My card is ASUS EAH6850 DC/2DIS/1GD5/V2. I hear all these stories of people getting 950/1150 on stock volts or something ridiculous like that. I'm using Trixx, I hate SmartDoctor, and i've noticed no difference between the two. I'd use Afterburner but it won't let me change volts on it.

Also i don't know if this was relevant but earlier i was running kombustor and my screen went loppsided and when i tried to change resolution of the screen i just got green static..I restarted everything's fine now but did that have anything to do with being unstable or is there something wrong with my card? (this has never happened before, nor anything similar to it)

Hmm... are the temps alright? You might just have a bad card.

Check the ASIC with GPUZ

Luck of the draw, plus add the fact that people brag about overclocks before they are fully tested all the time and it makes it seem like the average is higher then it probably really is

Temps are excellent, DC is something else, never goes above 65c @ stock even on a hot day. At 1.2v doesn't go over 75. ASIC?

In GPUZ click the little gpu icon on the top left and then find the option called "Read ASIC Quality".

Basically the higher the ASIC quality is, the less voltage leak and the better the chip is.

Honestly OP - this is the best answer you're going to get.

You have to remember that while the 6850 and 6870 are similar, there are major difference in power to the board resulting in deficient clocks in comparison. That's why the 6850's were stock at 775 and the 6870's at 900. You ought to be very pleased that you're getting 900+ out of your card to begin with. I have a Sapphire 6850 (stock version) that won't do more than 850 on nearly 1.2v.

Anyways - the 6850's are great little cards but remember - they are little cards.

"ASIC Quality Reading is unsupported"

Hm...why is that when i LOWERED the vcore to 1.176 and raised memory to 1147 i actually was MORE stable? I lasted 20 minutes of Kombustor Dx11 ??? Less leakage? I'm not sure...it didn't crash or anything past the 20 min mark, i just closed tocheck some games. Checking BF3 now.

Kombustor is not a good program to use to test for stability. it stresses certain parts of the card in ways that no ordinary graphics engine can.
Try running those speeds in the Unigine Heaven benchmark for a few loops and see what happens thumb.gif
