GTA IV LOW FPS ON A DECENT RIG

Thread Starter
Hey guys Im playing Gta IV recently and on max settings i never get beyond 20 fps when i drive around. My Gta iv has a moded textures and modded cars. Icenhancer 1.25 mod. and Gta Iv Version 1.0.7.0. Any tips to improve performance? And on windows rating my Harddrive rating is 4.9.. lol i dont know if that could cause the lag in this game though. Also on the same exact game on my brothers computer he gets 30+ Fps and his specs are i5 2400 ( stock) gtx 560 ( stock) and 8gb 1666mhz patriot ram.

Thanks for readings/helping biggrin.gif

AMD processor, and AMD video card. As much as I hate to say it, this is one of those games where you HAVE to run Intel / Nvidia to get it butter smooth.

I have an i5 2500k @ 5.0GHz and an HD7970, and it stutters really badly for me even at medium settings. When I had my GTX 580 though, it was butter smooth 80-100 FPS all the time.

Try turning your shadows down, and maybe the draw distance. That helps me quite a bit with my 7970.

not quite. My old amd athlon ii x4 w/ hd 6870 1gb can run it on medium smoothly ~ 35 fps.

I don't know what OP's problem is though but the hardware should run it fine at mid-high settings.

what's your harddrive? Please dont tell us you're using caviar green for gaming and OS
Obviously its the mods that lower your fps but majority of HDDs get over 5.3 to 5.9 score.

I have a hexcore 1090T and a gtx 680... and I still get horrible (less than 40) fps on this game. I agree that you need team blue all throughout to run this game good. With a 2500K i'd be fine...

Shadows and night shadows kill fps, draw view distance+detail distance as well.

Lower the above and you will get better fps without making the game look too bad.

And like I said earlier.... my i5 + GTX 580 maxed the game out beautifully 100%, and I was getting 80-100 FPS all the time.

In order to MAX OUT this game, it requires Intel + Nvidia. Period.

GTA4 is a pretty demanding game even without mods. Since you tacked on mods, performance is even further hampered.

Turn down some settings. Draw distance is a biggie.

LOLZ. I run the game fine braa. Run it maxed out at 1080p braaa. Got it modded to high heaven braaaaaa. see no less than 35 fps braaaaaaaa

Again, proof? 35 FPS is fine, assuming you can keep that up in the middle of the city with a lot going on (in other words, the EFLC benchmark).

My i5 at 5.0GHz with a 7970 can't max out the game, even at 800x600. I've tried it with an HD5870, and I had the same results. Having an Nvidia card, even a 9800GT or GTS 250 in there...it plays smoother.
