GTA IV LOW FPS ON A DECENT RIG - Page 7

Those with fps issues have you guys disabled vsync? My i5 2500k @3.3 with XFX HD 7970 @1125 (12.6 beta drivers) with the "no restriction" command with vsync disabled runs at 150+ fps.

Sorry just checked again. It ranges from 50-150FPS especially when indoors. AA @ 2 and everything on High.

I've used the original RC drivers up until a WHQL driver was released. And then I've used WHQL drivers since then (I refuse to run beta's). I never use any driver cleaner, i just uninstall and reinstall. This has NEVER given me an issue before, so I doubt that's the problem (and every other game performs flawlessly).

do you have AA on?

"-no restriction" command line lets me bypass the gpu settings past 800x600

another command line is "-help" that list all the other command lines available to you.

I have an i5 2500k @ 5.0GHz and an HD7970, and it stutters really badly for me even at medium settings. When I had my GTX 580 though, it was butter smooth 80-100 FPS all the time.
Try turning your shadows down, and maybe the draw distance. That helps me quite a bit with my 7970.

This is a personal experience, not fact.... not sure how you can make a blanket statement that you HAVE to use Intel/Nvidia for a particular game rolleyes.gif. I'm not a fanboy of either camp as I have both.

Edit: As for the CPU yes I would have to agree on needing an OC'ed Intel Q9550 or above @ 4Ghz+....

In order to MAX OUT this game, it requires Intel + Nvidia. Period.

I have a 2600k at 4.8 GHz. along with 2x gtx 670 in sli and I average only 30-40 fps with everything maxed except night shadows. Interestingly enough I can get very similar performance without sli enabled. Somehow the game manages to keep both of my cards at max usage or close all the time without any noticeable performance increase. The bottom line (imho) is that this is just a horribly optimized console port. thumb.gif
