seasonic x-series (760w) problem

Thread Starter
hi everyone.
I need advice. yesterday I've installed a new psu (SEASONIC 760W, SS-760KM) and it produces terrible pitch sound even when the computer is OFF :-(.
when I turn my computer on it's even louder and it changes frequency. to me it seems s imilar to the sound problem that mainboard sometimes have.
can anyone confirm that the same happen with this series of psu-s? I mean, I bought this psu over my old seasonic 620w specifically to lower noise as much as possible rolleyes.gif.

I actually tried to measure the sound when computer is OFF with my android phone and it shows up as ~23dB (few cm from the psu). the room was quite and the outside noise was very low cos it was early in the morning and I live on a country side.
cheers.

Sounds like coil whine. It's not really supposed to do that, especially if it's very loud that would definitely make me nervous. I would replace that unit if I were you.

With newegg it'll be easy. Go ahead before the 30 day delay is finished. Newegg doesn't ask much question or anything, they'll just exchange it no worry.

The OP lives in Croatia. NewEgg doesn't do business or ship anywhere outside of the US and Canada.

I'm in Croatia mate, a whole different story over here ;-).
I called the shop, they will exchange it. it will take 2-3 days. I just hope that it's not the whole batch of psu-s that are bad.
gonna be without a computer during weekend and I was really hopping to test my brand new phantom gtx570 biggrin.gif.
cheers.

Lovely, I just ordered a SeaSonic P-1000, even after reading post after post about coil whine on both the P-1000 and the AX1200 from Corsair, and now this has me nervous. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't have paid the premium and went with a Enermax.

Sorry I don't have any good suggestions for you, it's a problem that seems to be plaguing many manufacturers, hopefully you have a backup supply, or at least another PC, that you can limp along until yours is swapped out.

guys, now I'm really confused. there's a guy that claims that this issue is normal for seasonic X series mad.gif?
I really hope he is wrong cos we are talking about top model/silent model from seasonic, not some el chipo c*ap?
can some owner of x series confirm please.
I'm still without my desktop and will be for a few more days until I receive this PSU. I already sold my old seasonic 620W psu so I have no replacement :-(.
cheers.

update:
received the new psu. again the same problem. it produces this high pitch sound that is killing my ears :-(.
don't know what to do guys.
I know that I have a very good hearing and I do hear these freq pretty good, but this is just annoying for a "silent PSU".
what is Cors AX750W like in comparison with this?

thanks.

It's internally the same... return the unit again and go for a different product or brand.... indeed the X Series(AX for Corsair) are notorious for the coil noise they generate.
