p8p67 problem

Thread Starter
ok, i've searched on the forum, i've googled it... but i can't find an answer to this:

has the asus p8p67 been discontinued?!

no shops in my country have it in stock anymore (neither rev 3.1 nor 3.0), and the rev 3.1 one is out of stock even on amazon (save for one seller that's trying to sucker somebody into paying like 260 pounds for it)

it's my choice for a terribly lengthy 2500k build and i don't really know where else to turn... could you suggest a good alternative to it? i'm very reluctant to buy a used one or a "new" one from sites like ebay

budget is not an issue, but i'm not paying 260 pounds for something that's worth half that. and i don't live in antarctica, so whatever you can get in the states, i can get here too smile.gif

but i don't know what happened to the p8p67... it's not just a local problem. it's out of stock in other countries too, without any word when/if they would be coming back. i'll keep looking, but i need alternatives.

i chose the p8p67 pro as my future mb after a lengthy process of reading thru countless forums, articles and benchmarks... i'm completely lost for an alternative now, since i didn't figure on a 2nd choice... i never do lol... i just decide on something and go for that... there's never a plan b

anyway... i seem to remember, from all i've read, that asrock makes the second best board for that type of processor. thing is i picked the asus for being so friendly to overclocking... and i need a similar board

what is this "egg" you speak of? tongue.gifsmile.gif

but seriously... p8z77, eh? i'll do some research. thanks wink.gif

EDIT: hmm... how about a sabertooth z77?

i guess that the main question here is... should i look for an alternative at asus or somewhere else? are mostly all socket 1155 boards made by asus better than ones made by others? or did that just apply to the p8p67? can i just pick any 1155 asus board that ends with "pro" and know i'll have a stable platform for oc?

guess there was more than one main question, huh? smile.gif

Well, my experience with Asus boards has been very positive so far. The boads are well laid out, the BIOS (or UEFI, whichever you prefer tongue.gif) is easy to navigate and they always pack tons of features on their boards.
Either way, there's no real reason not to go Z77 (sucessor to P67 and Z68). My personal recommendation would be the P8Z77-V Pro as it strikes a good balance between features and price. Go for the Sabertooth Z77 if you prefer the looks of that or need the extended warranty.
What CPU are you planning on putting in there? smile.gif

well, i'm planning on a 2500k, since i've read it overclocks very well. before you ask me "why not 3570k?", it's because the 2500k is probably the best cpu out there for overclocking and all the 3750k has been able to prove to me so far is that it runs a lot hotter. and yes, i am aware it's a different/better architecture. also yes, i am planning on a wc loop, which would solve the overheating issues with the ivy bridge, but i'd still rather have the 2500k sandy atm

getting a z77 would give me plenty of room for a future ivy bridge upgrade, should i feel the need for it in a few years. by that time, the price on those procs will go down too

and yes, a sabertooth would look awesome in my build biggrin.gif

Well yeah, I have the 2600K and it overclocks like the clappers. I have it at 4.8GHz right now and it's maxing out around 65°C in Prime95 biggrin.gif (with HT on for the record), so I can imagine the 2500K does better or similar.
Have fun with your build thumb.gif
One thing I can also recommend though: get an SSD, you won't regret it biggrin.gif
