Hey I have a friend whos computer crashed and wants me to build one for him. My problem is I go overboard. So I need to build a computer that is responsive. All he needs it for is Internet (ie. Facebook/Youtube/Pron) Music and Microsoft Word for school. The budget is as little as possible. I'd like to see what you think is the best budget computer with ZERO gaming. thumb.gif

Buy a 5+ years old used computer... that's all.

Today cheapest components costs $30-$50 without taxes and ship... I'm pretty sure the $200 is limited to 2-3 components that will not make up a computer.

Buy a used tablet computer? Look up Asus Transformer series.

Does he have anything he can reuse from his old comp? Specifically HDD because the prices are high, but a case/PSU/cd-dvd could help stretch the budget as well.

Do you have a microcenter/Fry's nearby? Any site preferences?

More or less around $150. Lend him a HDD or grab one off the OCN marketplace.

I should also add that the above machine will be able to handle very light gaming and run multiple streams of 1080p content without a sweat. If you don't trust the psu/case combo then you can buy a standalone psu if he ever wants to upgrade to a real gpu. Older generation GPUs such as the 4850 are going around $50 so for around $200 you can have a machine that can handle almost every modern games on low with no issues. That my friend is bang for buck.

Here's my submission, hopefully his HDD can be saved, and he has mouse/keyboard/monitor.

yeh i'd rather go with OCN marketplace, you can find really decently priced stuff for such a computer that will be only used for web surfing. i remember pulling off a whole build with just 175 bucks mostly from OCN marketplace.

good luck thumb.gif
