Windows Server

I have a extra 1700+ AMD and a few hard drives laying around so I thought I would build a network server.

It will mainly be for gaming/Harddrive storage.

I was wondering wich one windows server would be the best for gaming server and hard drive storage ;-)

Sorry if this is the wrong section ;-)

theese are the products I am currently looking at buying if there is a better 2003 server let me know

Enterprise is the bomb no doubt but total overkill (I've got my serial free as well - love those volume licenses and a workplace willing to give you one on loan) - considering I'm the network admin its only fair- Standard will do you well.

I run Standard Edition Server... Quite nice for file sharing and such, but it takes some getting used to. I found it really hard to find and accomplish simple tasks. Now it folds and does file/printer sharing (mainly).

Im going to go with Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise How often do they give away the software might be worth waiting a while before I get this one :-D

They don't give them away, and honestly i wouldn't spend the money on a server os just for file storage. From the sound of it, xp home would be fine for what you want to do

I have to agree. For what's required (file sharing/gaming) just set up XP or 2K. They will work fine for home use. Unless it was your intention to learn a new MS OS, then go for a server edition .
