VX550 and 2500k 4.9 + gtx480 oc

Thread Starter
I'm running the 2500K at 4.9 ghz 1.42v and the GTX480 at 900/1800 1.100v and i'm getting nvidia lockups when i oc them both .The card is stable alone with i5 stock.
Can i start worrying i'm pulling too much out of my psu?I've seen 425W(+-3%) when 3dmark11 is running.
Thx!

I don't think its the PSU. Maybe your OC is unstable?? 900 on air is pushing it a bit

Have a very similar system and it's fully stable. It's not your PSU.Probably bad OC.

I've pulled significantly more from the plug with no issues.

Make sure GPU is really stable w/ cpu @ stock speed, maybe it's just a coincidence. If it isn't, I would say it's the PSU. You're pushing it real hard IMO.

Btw, was the 425w reading with the cpu @ stock speed? I wouldn't be surprise if it's pulling like 600w with the OC, which is very close to the limit. And that's on 3dMark, go run Prime95 and Furmark, that's the real deal to see peak power consumption.
idk

The PSU is faulty if it is the cause. 3DMark doesn't load the CPU and GPU hard enough at the same time to make the power consumption peak. Prime95 and Furmark when OC'ed could hit 550 W (max), but 3DMark can't.
If he's pulling 425 W at the plug, the PSU is producing ~350 W for the components. That's nowhere near the limit and leaves PLENTY of headroom for OC'ing.

That PSU is totally fine for any single GPU, even an overclocked 480. No need to worry!
