Going AMD ( fingers crossed ) on Friday need build help.

Ok so currently I have:

Q6600
DFI LP UT P35
Tagan ITZ 700w ( which I heard NOW it has a lot of ripple I have not noticed anything though but I haven't tested either dont know how)
Asus GTX 570
DDR2

What I possibly want:
New power supply (??)
New RAM
FX 8120
SSD boot drive something like intels srt
New Motherboard
CPU cooling solution ( dont know if I want air or water I see a lot of people with the H60's )

What I need is that it comes from Microcenter and be all under $500 overcall under $400 for sure Friday. Of course I can deal without a new powersupply for another month and the without the SSD for another month. Suggestions are welcome though so I can reference at a later date.

Im looking for solid performance, overclocking, and longevity ( future resistant ).

I have my current rig in the rig builder but I do not know how to link it under all my post.

Current powersupply note:

ATX +3.3v = 3.06
ATX +5v = 4.76-4.81
ATX +12v 11.90-11.97

Thats what its currently sitting at. Dont know if those numbers are good or bad.

What are you doing with the computer?

Gaming? get a PII x4

Multi-threaded apps? get a FX-8 core

Everything else? get a PII x4

I think micro center has a deal with the PII 965 and all of the FX chips that you get so much $$ off with the purchase of a compatible mobo.

hello,
i think a sabretooth and the 8120,i would get a pair of 1866 or above ddr3.i wouldn't get a new psu as it will change your budget ideas.

if you get 2133 or above,it should be good for your next build.

i think 700w will do the job required,my psu is a rubbish brand, but it rated well above what i need and i have a surge protection plug board before hand.

i would also say that its a fx 8120 or something intel, the phenom six cores are nice too,but there not a nice 32nm or 28nm,so more voltage and the native ram support will be lesser with the phenoms.

the fx 8120 is very hot,i am only able to reach 4ghz and thats at max temp 61c.

small tab of advice as iam looking at water cooling for my system, the makers recommend that you use the intake port in your pc case for radiator,it dose make sense, just never thought about it.

oh,and thermal paste?

Why AMD? You could easily go 2500K/3570K + motherboard + ram + cooler like the 212+ for ballpark 400.

Edit:

You may have to get some parts from Newegg, but the mobo + CPU is best from MC.

That PSU is a no-no. Corsair's CX600 is not a good PSU for the price, you are better off getting an Antec EA or Rosewill Green. Ram you should go with is the Samsung low voltage kit, Cooler can be found cheaper. Everything else looks good though thumb.gif

Yeah I know! You guys dont know how much slack im getting from friends about AMD. Im starting to think that the FX 8120 wont even beat my Q6600.

If you can pull of Intel, I would go Intel. If you can't, then go AMD. It's the best bang for the buck. Microcenter usually has incredible deals on CPU + Mobo combos. To the tune of ~100 for an awesome setup.
