Pick a GPU for Triple Monitors

Thread Starter
I have 3 monitors coming in (U2312HM to be exact). I need a card to run all 3 with the goal being either eyefinity or surround for full screen gaming.

Should I wait for a 680 to get in stock or would a 670 be sufficient? I obviously want to play on the max settings I can get, however how much difference is there between these 2 cards at this resolution? Links to any benchmarks would be fantastic as I have yet to find any good reviews for multi monitor tests.

Thanks!

EDIT: Budget of $550 please for recommendations!

Hardware Heaven almost always includes at least one multi monitor resolution in their benchmarks. Here are a few with 5760x1080 for the 680 and overclocked 670 cards...

Nvidia 680

Nvidia 670 (OC)

If you look around you will find a bunch more. Hope this helps a little.

I do have the option to pick up 2 of these pretty cheap:

http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/AMD_Series/EAH6950_DCII2DI4S2GD5/#specifications

however I am a little nervous about scaleability compared to picking up a sing 680/670 and buying a second in a few months.

get the sapphire HD 7950 950 Mhz edition.

http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-PCI-Express-version-Graphics-11196-10-40G/dp/B0082D58P4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339731319&sr=8-1

fastest HD 7950 out of the box at 950 mhz. uses the ref HD 7970 PCB. 8 pin + 6pin power. dual BIOS with the 2nd BIOS allowing for very aggressive overclocking. this card will do 1100 Mhz at stock volts with sapphire trixx. with voltage tweaking getting this card to 1150 -1200 Mhz should be easy. clock for clock close to HD 7970 perf. fantastic dual x cooler. here are a few pics, OC speeds posted by sonda5

Well IMO it should be between a 7970 as stated in above posts or a EVGA GTX 670 4GB card will also be a great choice for multiple monitors. Buy one now and SLI down the road when budget allows knowing that 4GB will carry you easily across multiple monitors for a good while.

HardOCP & HardwareCanucks have decent reads on the 670 and very competitive performance on higher resolution. Very powerful in SLI as well.

No availability issues.

Post back and let us know when you pull the trigger. Good luck.

Good advice. For multi monitors, you want a lot of VRAM. If you go multigpu, you still get the advertised spec on vram, not 2x of one card. A 4gb 670 is pretty sex. That being said (hopefully not letting my ATI whoreness showing), from what I've read a 7k series ATI card vs a comparable kepler gpu is pretty square. However the nvidia will probably fold better.

go with a 670 4gb or 680 4gb if you are not going to sli them down the road.. trust me i have done 7970 cr-x and 680 sli with 3 monitors and game play even though frames are barely higher on the 7970 the 680's are so much less choppy and smooth its no comparison... im sure the 670 would be just as good as 680 so either one is your only option in my mind

Wait till the 7970 GHz SKUs are on the market.

The updated clockspeeds should give them a nice edge over the GTX680s, and the power consumption has been lowered too. Which is amazing considering the brutal amount of raw horsepower this cards pack, which is useful for other things other than gaming smile.gif

If you're only gaming... Just get a HD7970 or a GTX670. Whichever you can buy, or whichever brand you prefer.
