Would like to know as well. Seems like videos I have watched people do the spread method which I always thought was a no no, but I am not 100% confident on the pea method either

Dot in the middle, the cooler will spread it out, has always worked fine for me.

I like to take a small dot, put it on the chip, and use a pair of examiners gloves to spread it evenly across the chip.

but spreading the paste cause air bubbles, i always put a dot on my cpu but i don't think it would be enough for my gpu. and i don't want to put to much paste on their to.

It can and it's by no means the perfect method, simply the one I use. I generally have a little bit of trouble judging how much I should use (too much, too little) so I go with the spreading method.

this is a interesting read. I would go with the dot. It seems to be the general opinion around here.

For large GPUs like the GF110, I either use a single large dot in the center. Or one regular rice grain size dot in the center, with 4 dots surrounding the center dot near the corners, about half the size, this seemed to give me the best temps on my 580. However there are a 1000 ways to skin a cat, I'd stay away from spreading though. While there are many that swear by it, it is impossible to spread out the TIM and not get at least some micro-bubbles of air.

This is the only picture/video I could find showing what I do, I put a bigger dot in the center, with smaller dots out to the side.
