Socket 478 P4 CPUs

Thread Starter
Working with a 478 P4 2.6C on an ASUS P4SD series board. Since 478 chip prices are pretty cheap (around $100 or less), I was looking at upgrading. Question is, given the choice, what would you choose:

478 P4 3.0E 1MB L2 for ~$80
478 P4 3.4C 512KB L2 for ~$110

I haven't been able to find a 3.4E with 1MB L2, otherwise the choice would be simple.

Go with the Pentium 4 3.0E. It is "newer" then the C version plus it has more L2.

Well, considering I got my 805D for less than either don't buy them. Save, save save. Just my 2c.
Yes there are many other options that are cheaper and better but out of those you should go for the P4 3.0E.

Yeah, if I had the money, I'd be getting a new board, too. Just trying to squeeze a little bit extra out with what I have. $100 I think my wife will let me get away with. $300 may get me in trouble.

Where did you find the P4 3.4ghz for $110? The cheapest place I saw was $125 OEM.
how about my 2.8Gz (200FSB x 14 ) 512 L2

for $50

overclocks to 3.5 easy on air

Definitely go for the 3.4C . Northwood was a lot better trust me. The 1mb cache makes no difference what so ever. One of my mates has a 3ghz prescott and i have a 2.8ghz northy, and my Northwood has better scores at everything. Take a look over at www.tomshardware.com they have the cpu charts to prove it.

Edit: Oh damn they don't have socket 478 cpus on there anymore .....

C is northwood? I thought B was northwood. In that case get the second one.

I thought C was the older prescott and E was the updated version.
