AMD 955 maximum overclock? - Page 2

1.6 volts is much too high, you don't really want to be going over 1.5, with 1.55 being the absolute maximum.

I'm currently testing 250 x 16 on mine.

What cooler are you using?
You probably want to keep it under 55 if possible, 62 is cutting it very close.
Also I believe that overclocking the HT link can cause a loss in performance, you want to keep that at 2000MHz.

Hope this helps.

To what extent is this true?
I'm using 4 x 2GB Corsair XMS 3 at 1333MHz
I was thinking about getting some 1600MHz vengeance or that fancy Samsung RAM, would it be worth it?

Cheers.

Higher frequency kits give you more options as to what to set the bus clock/what multiplier to use due to what can simply be a better expected overclocking ability.  You might be more limited to certain bus clock values due to RAM inflexibility with a generic kit not binned for any clocking abilities.  Not that I think you should worry about this a whole lot given you have an unlocked multi 955.  Although a 1600mhz kit might give you some other benefits, particularly when it comes to feeding the data to/from a high-throughput SSD alongside a faster CPU.  It might be a good time to invest.  You could grab a 2x4GB kit which would be easier on the IMC (2 DIMMs vs 4).

Nah, you're good up to around 1.55. For 24/7 maybe about 1.5, though.
