Tried out my new G1/4 tap on some scrap acrylic:

It works! The one nasty looking hole is what happens if you don't drill a pilot hole first thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
400
BTW, for anyone who doesn't know, but would like to, the "G1/4" tap is actually a BSP / BSPT (British Standard Pipe / Tapered)1/4" tap. I'm not really sure where the G came from. A tap should cost somewhere around $5-15 depending on the quality. I got mine with the tap handle for $19 shipped on ebay. The tap handle should cost about the same as the tap.

Besides that I put in my new ssd's. They work, but that's about all I can say. I haven't had the chance to put anything on them or bench them yet. In any case, I want to start everything from scratch once the case is built, I just wanted to make sure neither drive was DOA.

Alright, so I know it's been a long time between updates, but life/work has kept me too busy.

Here are some of the things I've actually got done though.

Got the laser cut acrylic!

Got some delrin!

Made some delrin elbows!

Comparison of my delrin elbow to the Danger Den ones:

Made some special glow! (also found out that green leds are impossible to photograph with any kind of color/light accuracy)

Got two new rads! (Koolance 3x120's)

Got new fans!

Bent the Acrylic top!

The bend is not absolutely perfect, but it is pretty close. I may try to fix it a little, but I think it is ok. I used a wood dowel to radius my bend, and I think it wasn't perfectly straight, so the bend has a slight bow if that makes any sense. Used the heat gun to get the acrylic nice and hot, and it was easy to bend. If anyone is interested I could do a more detailed post on how I did it, but I'm no expert.

Planning on getting more done this weekend. Mainly more elbows (slightly smaller), marking up and cutting more of the acrylic, and whatever else I have time for. If anything.

Thanks for looking!

Worked on some more elbows this weekend. Which was fun, but not exactly rewarding.

As you can see, they came out pretty decent overall, I'm reasonably pleased with my work:

The problem is I didn't think about the size of the fittings I'm going to use (Monsoon Compression fittings). In this picture, you can see that the shank of the fitting, when screwed all the way down, is too long and extends into the path of the other fitting.

So I basically made my elbows too small. I had a couple koolance fittings sitting around, and they work fine because they have a shorter shank, but I just don't want to use those.

Also, even if they were shorter, which I could do somewhat easily on my grinder, the compression ring is too large for the face of the elbow, meaning I cant screw both of those down either. So it was just poor planning on my part.

So kind of a non-productive weekend again, but it is fun. I may just use these elbows with other fittings, they look so good so small.

As always, all the pictures I have are on my skydrive, link is in the first post. Most of them are bigger too, in case you feel like critiquing my machining skills rolleyes.gif
