Stay on Sandy Bridge or Upgrad to SB-E?

Thread Starter
ok, after searching the forum, this topic is close to what i need to chat about.
currently on P67 i7-2700k 4.6 @ 1.31vcore on d14 air-cooling. the thread count
is awesome and really want to jump into 2011 and 3930k for video rendering,
but the funds cant support 3930k, but the 3820 is thrifty for my budget. not
gunna wait on haswell, and i hadn't tried a Z68 board for the Virtu rendering.
question?
stay on the SB and up to Z77/Z68 board w/2700k @ 4.6 or
get into the SB-E and start with 3820 w/4.6 OC
cooling isnt an issue as i can stay on nh-d14 air or custom water loop.

all with experience in Z77/Z68 in video rendering please respond. i do
not game, if i do, i can use the 2550k machine.

Z77/Z68 will offer you no significant benefit over p67.
A 3820 isn't going to have better performance than an i7-2700k at the same clock speed.
You can't afford 3930k.

There are no reasonable upgrade paths for you.

Edit: Here's what z68 can do that p67 cannot: utilize the GPU. Use SSD caching. That is all.

I agree. Nowadays, IF you're gonna go with LGA 2011, go with either the 3930K or the 3960X (if you have too much money).
If not one of those two, go for Ivy Bridge. Simple as that. It'll give you just as much if not more performance. smile.gif

Only real benefit of going for the 3820 is if you need more than 32GB of RAM and/or you run a lot of PCI-E cards and you need the bandwidth there. If you are willing to spend the money for a hexacore then all bets are off and your only option is X79.

specifically the memory addition and possibility to find an inexpensive 3930k down
the road to better the redering processes. the Virtu process has been "explained"
but note as well to what kind of benchmark increase to render or trans-code.
just that Virtu is faster...
i want the hex-core.. just gotta fandangle someone outta theirs..
