Best upgrade Price VS Performance - Page 4

Hey OP is your 7970 overclocked?

If so check your memory speed, I noticed that sometimes there is a sweet spot on these ATI cards and if you go beyond them the OC process of the memory begins once again just causing more heat.
Try to bring down your memory clock if you have it overclocked far, you might just end up finding that "SWEET SPOT" I was talking about where FPS tends to rise by 10-20 with lower settings.

Yes it is, but even at stock clocks it doesnt make sense that a 6970 would beat a 7970 getting twice the frames of my system (both have a 8150) so my question now is why am i only seeing 40-50FPS in BF3 and not over 80FPS like the link I posted was getting with a 6970

I feel like such an idiot right now XD
I was read the MAX FPS results as the Average FPS results for link I posted! I now realize that at stock I am getting is what is expected -_-
There is no problem here lol, but would a second 7970 still be a waste with a single 1440p monitor?

I would say no... may be over kill but that word is not allowed here tongue.gif

I would still make the monitor high priority. Once you go high res you won't be able to go back to 1080p

What I am proposing is theoretical, if i am wrong please tell me tongue.gif

So my average FPS in battlefield with everything maxed is 60FPS @ 1080p(no its not Vsynced my max was 121 and min was 37), yet people with the same configuration as me get an average of 40FPS @ 1600p

So considering that 2560x1600 is Double 1920x1080, and the average FPS inst halved when doubling screen size (instead it decreases by 1/3), I would notice a greater benefit of adding a second 7970 @ 1600p vs 1080p...correct?

So by that logic the FPS increase from one 7970 @ 1600p to two 7970's at 1600p would be greater than from one 7970 to two 7970's at 1080p

man I'm lost but yes you will get greater benefit running crossfire @1600 just for the simple fact there is substantially more pixels to produce

What im saying based on the numbers ive seen, at higher resolutions, your GPU usage increases and CPU Usage decreases?

At higher resolutions, you are more likely to run into a gpu bottleneck. If you hit a gpu bottleneck, your cpu usage will decrease because your gpu cannot create frames fast enough to continue to utilize your cpu.

At low resolutions, you rarely run into gpu bottlenecks, so the gpus are able to fully utilize the cpu power, making it more probable that cpu usage will be higher.

Hrm :/ well considering that, I think Ill stick with my current setup and just do some over clocking. I'll have to keep this in mind for future builds, hopefully soon if I can save up enough of a "Tuition buffer" tongue.gif
Thanks everyone for the help!
