I'm a little retarded when it comes to Apple products. I have a upnp server (SAMBA) that works with my PS3 and tablet. would this work on a Mac too? what about the airport thingy?

As long as you had a compatible player, then yes. XBMC would work and is available for OS X.

By the way, Samba is an SMB server, not uPnP. They're two very different protocols. So while you might also have Samba running on your *nix box (I'm assuming it's Linux or other such UNIX-like, because it would be pointless running Samba on Windows), it wouldn't be Samba that's streaming to your PS3 et al.

PS3 Media Server is a good one that I use. Even my Sansung TV picks it up when I'm running it! Worth a shot IMO
