It depends really, Diablo 2:LOD was the only diablo game I've ever played (Including a few mods like MedianXL).
Even though they're of the same genre, torchlight played a lot different from Diablo 2 (Don't get me wrong, they're both good games)
As for Diablo 3........ I don't even know to be honest. I've watched a LOT of videos, and listened to a LOT of discussions and/or podcasts. (Fun fact: I'm watching a Diablo 3 stream as of right now)
And all I can say is: aside from the Horrible DRM, and the server issues. It is INCREDIBLY dumbed down. It is a POS compared to the amount of uniqueness in Diablo 2.
Diablo 3, for me, is just a money-grubbing modus operandi to bring money to Blizzard since they know that WoW is starting to lose subscribers.
Oh, and the DRM? Yeah.... One does not simply "require" to be online to prevent piracy.
EVERYONE needs to realize that Blizzard is not what they used to be.
For me:
