i5 2500k or i5 3570k?

Thread Starter
I'm buying a new computer for gaming and was wondering who of these two cpu's where better for gaming. The price is very simular.
I'm using ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 would these cpu's work with that motherboard?
Both CPU's would work fine. Most people would say go for the latest tech which would be the 3570K but for gaming you're not going to notice any difference between the 2 chips. You would however notice a huge gain going from a single AMD / Nvidia card to Crossfire / SLI.

Yes they would. smile.gif

Also i would go with 3570k because of pci 3.0 support and better iGPU

Unless you're getting a great deal on a 2500k (as an 2500k owner) go for the Ivy. Though they will both work fine on that mobo as I own it with a 2500k installed and have installed it with a 3570k on a friends rig.

Tough call. I'd say if your getting a deal the 2500k. I noticed though that the 3750k it hotter then my 2500k. I've been teaching friend how to build his own rig, and he bought the 3750k. I've currently got it stable at 4.6Ghz @ 1.260v. With a H60 with duel fans I"m keeping it at 70c on Prime95. Good chips, but they run a little warmer then I prefer.

I'll say the same like everybody else. If you can get a sweet deal for the 2500k (for about $140 / $150), buy it. The 3750k does not provide drastic gaming performance improvement over the 2500k, even when using a pci-e 3.0 gpu.

Is it a good motherboard?
Since your main use is for gaming, get the 3570k since it supports pci-e 3.0.

So far I've built three systems and the other two have been perfectly fine while I have had issues with my person PC. On one system I put a mild OC 4.4 on a 2500k, the second with the 3570k got him a better 4.5 with a Spire Eclipse II @1.245v with mostly low 60's with some GT AP15's with ease, both systems my friends were fine with OC's so I didn't push either.

Now with my PC I actually came from a Asrock extreme 3 gen 3 z68 and an issue that cropped up was a couple of 101 BSOD's the last couple of days while actually pushing the CPU. I without thinking just set the same settings on this z77 board that were on my z68 and never tested them with the new board. Previously I hit 4.6 @1.320 on the z68 E3 with 37 stable P95 with 6500 megs of my 8gig's tested and 24 hours of OCCT so it was rock solid, with the z77 those same settings BSOD me almost instantly and force me to go past 1.350 for some form stability, I did 2 hours or so of P95 but unfortunately with a 212+ even in p//p my temps hit mid 80's (I live in Los Angeles) which would mean that during the next couple of months if I run P95 that will jump into the 90's which is a massive no no for me. I'm trying different bios and stuff on the board but so far minimum has been 1.345 on 1.20 BIOS but I only tested p95 for about an hour since I needed to go through all five of them relatively fast.

Now my issue is more of a personal problem obviously but it is an issue and it's kinda big for me since the added volts basically jump my temps 7-10 on this new board which is massive, I'll be resetting my 212+ on sunday and hope that that helps my temps some but not holding out much hope. I think this board doesn't like my chip and had my buddy run a few test on his 2500k and z77 and that ran about 7C cooler than my PC with the same settings even though I have much better AIrflow.

Now I'm just rambling...... But yeah, aside from my issue I haven't heard a peep of a single BSOD from the other PC's with the board and after I lower my OC to 4.5 @1.325 my system is rock solid but I have been looking at H100 to solve my issue and just make this hit 5.1 (boots into windows @ 53 already tested but not sure about stability)

I would recommend this board highly, aside from some of the Biostar boards nothing comes close to the features in it's price range.

I'm off to bed though, hope that helps but I'll check the thread when I wake up. Good luck with your decision.
