I am concerned that I will lose PPD though. I am already folding smp in my VM at 3.8Ghz with the 8core hack.

Just be happy you're not getting 7611's... 8 hours per WU for an amazing 10-14k PPD. 8004's I get about 30k PPD.... I had one 8046 that I saw, and it was amazing. But it was almost a week ago now. :/

Yeah, I have my 2700k rig set to switch back to bigadv in my Linux VM once it finishes this WU (at around noon today). It was mid way through a 6901 when I decided to try this out and since I didn't get an 8046 after about 24 hours of folding on it, I restarted my VM, set it to low priority and then set my Win7 v7 client to below normal and finish. This way, once it completes the 7905 it is working on, it will go back to bigadv...sure, if I was getting 8046's it would be worth it, but since I haven't seen one, its killing my PPD.

I did finally get my 3570k build done, it is up and running at stock clocks, so I have the v7 client running on it, have yet to see a 8046, but I'll let it run like that through the FaT and see what happens.

True, and I agree, which is why I continue to fold on a couple of old P4 systems that net me >1k PPD, however, if I can get more points folding one way than another, I'll go for that. My Ubuntu VM nets me more points than running v7 in Win7, so I'll go with the VM. As you said, all the work needs to be done and is going toward the right thing, so I'll jump in where it helps Stanford, and myself, as much as possible!

exactly, im running 4 P4 rigs, 2 old T series core 2 duo laptops, and a couple of older dual core towers, one being an E8400 compaq, the other an AMD Athlon x2 6400+ that is now going to take 4.65 days to finish, because it picked up a 7808 unit.

i make my main rig's 2500K do SMP while im at work, all ive seen so far is 8004 WUs and i dont really care.

i booted up my old i5 750 and P55 mobo to run a 5770 in the v7 client for a whole 6k PPD.

if i cared about hardware efficiency and points for folding, i wouldnt be reviving my 8600GTS in the oven tonight.

that and id probably have the biggest headache in the world worrying about it.

those who fold for PPD efficiency, i commend your insanity.

Well I thank you for that! I only really worry about it on 3 of my rigs (my 2500k which is used for the TC, my 2700k and my 3570k), all my older rigs, I just set them up and let them run. Most of them either don't have monitors or I never even look at.

Here's what I'm running right now...

2700k @ 5.0GHz, GTX570, GTX460
2500k @ 4.78GHz (my folding TC rig)
3570k (just got together yesterday, so its only at 3.6GHz) with a GTX460
Gateway 507GR (with a P4 3.0GHz, old, but tried and true!)
Gateway Laptop (also old, but it crunches all day long!)
HP Laptop (not sure what, it was given to me with a broken screen, so I hooked it up to my home theater projector, got a blue-tooth keybard and use it as my HTPC, but it has a second gen i5, so it works pretty well!
Gateway desktop (is about 10 years old, but still runs right along, only nets about 500 PPD, so I'm actually giving it to one of my co-works later this week to replace her 12 year old PC that just died)

For me it is 95% about the cause, 5% about the points. If it wasn't for this cause, I wouldn't spend the time and money, but since I believe in what Stanford is doing, I really want to do the best I can. Also, the 5% about the points is because I love being competitive and this gives me a place to be competitive while doing something I love (building and tinkering with computers).
